His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and education, through evangelization and through continual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother. SECOND COLLECTION April 2: School Support April 9: My Easter Gift to My Church April 16: Retired Priests “I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE; WHOEVER BELIEVES IN ME EVEN IF HE DIES, WILL LIVE, AND EVERYONE WHO LIVES AND BELIEVES IN ME WILL NEVER DIE.” FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You. Because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the World. I personally find this invocation one of the most beautiful in our Catholic tradition. It is most associated with Lent and the Via Crucis as we pause before each of the Stations of the Cross. I always use it throughout the year in my own personal prayer times. For me it sums up nicely the centrality of Christ and the redemption He won for us following the Divine Plan. Subsequently He merits our adoration and praise. Friday’s Living Stations were a reminder. In the old liturgical calendar, this Fifth Sunday of Lent would begin the mini season of Passiontide. The first Sunday would be devoted to the reading of the Lord’s Passion and the second Sunday would commemorate the triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. While there is no longer Passiontide in the liturgical calendar the sentiments of the season remains in the prayers and mindset of the Church. For over four weeks of Lent we have been challenged to curb our sinfulness and conquer our pride. The prayers and readings have directed our interior and exterior conversion. We undertake this annual season of almsgiving, prayer and fasting (Ash Wednesday) so that we will not be ensnared by Satan (Lent I) but rather, successfully transformed (Lent II) through Jesus, the Wellspring of Life (Lent III), so that we may have the Eyes of Faith (Lent IV) to see and get caught up into His Resurrection. These last two weeks of Lent will focus on, and prepare us better for, the Crucifixion and Death of the Lord. We will hear prophecies about His Death and Resurrection at daily Mass, and today the Gospel of the raising of Lazarus is included to prefigure the Resurrection Gospels of Easter Sunday. But first the Lord’s Passion. Versions of which will be proclaimed next Sunday and on Good Friday. Reality check. No matter how much you have given up, prayed, or given to charity this Lent, it’s still about the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus. Through His generosity we receive forgiveness and newness of life. The Church keeps Christ central these days—Crucified between two villains– may we do the same. Blessed Lent! UP COMING ANNIVERSARY EVENTS LENTEN REGULATIONS—Abstinence: The Church requires all the faithful who have reached their 14th year of age to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting: All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are also bound to observe the fasting regulation on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken at 2 other occasions in the day. LENTEN VESPERS SERIES. I ask you, in silence: in your schools, in your neighborhoods, is there someone that you mock? That you make fun of because they look a little funny, because they are a little fat? That you like to embarrass and hit because of this? Think about this. This is called bullying make the promise to the Lord to never do this. Understood? Promise me: never, never make fun of, never mock a friend, a neighbor, etc. Do you promise this? Think in silence if you do this and if you are able to promise this to Jesus. Promise Jesus to never bully. - Address to Confirmation Classes 25 March 2017—Milan FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT A Parish Food Drive.
