Where Did my HYSWEEP® Information Go?

Where Did my HYSWEEP® Information Go?
By Judy Bragg
Not too long ago, I saw a comment from one of our multibeam users. Their practice was to
copy their project from the Survey computer to the Office computer for processing and
couldn’t understand why they lost their hardware and patch test information in the transition.
The short answer is “Because that data is not stored in the project folder.” And the same is
true for side scan projects.
This article provides information about where the HYSWEEP® and side scan information is
stored and how to transfer the information with your project to another computer.
SAVING YOUR PROJECT ON THE BOAT
Each time you save your settings in HARDWARE, your current hardware configurations are
stored in the project INI files:

\Projects\ProjectName\survey32.ini

\Projects\hysweep.ini

Side Scan Settings
\Projects\_Sidescan.ini
Other programs read these files to enable your data collection and by HARDWARE itself to
display your settings when you re-open the program.
Notice the location of the multibeam and side scan files. They are not in the project folder
(\HYPACK 2015\Projects\ProjectName\), but in the \HYPACK 2015\Projects folder. The
patch test results are also stored in the hysweep.ini file along with the most recent settings
from HYSWEEP® SURVEY. That’s why, when our user just zipped up the project file, the
multibeam settings remained on the boat.
To successfully transfer all of the settings from the a multibeam or side scan project,
you must include the hysweep.ini or _Sidescan.ini, respectively, with all of the data in the
project file.
IN THE OFFICE...
Now, let’s think about what happens in the office. If they are processing only data from your
boat, they can just drop the project folder and the INI file into the \HYPACK 2015\Projects
folder and be set. However, if your office processes data from multiple boats, the projects will
include variations in the hardware configuration, patch test results and other HYSWEEP®

settings (HYSWEEP® SURVEY window settings, Sound Velocity profile, Squat/Settlement
table, etc) or SIDE SCAN SURVEY settings (window settings, etc).
If you copy the hysweep.ini or _Sidescan.ini from the boat into the project folder before you
transfer it to the office computer, it will always be with the corresponding project data. In the
office, they can then copy it back out to the correct location whenever they access the project
data—today, tomorrow or next year!
By maintaining a copy of the INI file in the project folder, the office will always have the
correct settings corresponding to the project data, even if they are processing data from
multiple boats.
