Tennis Champions
Thanks to Robbie & Fraser who
organised our tennis tournament this
year.
They kept us entertained with their
banter and match reports. Thanks to
Brunstane Kitchens for sponsoring the
event and to all those who entered
and helped during the week.
Our champs were presented with their
trophies at our champions night where
everyone enjoyed a fantastic Italian
meal prepared by Alex & Willie.

TENNIS NEWS
New Tennis Courts in 2015
Good progress is being made getting quotes for resurfacing courts 1-3, adding floodlights to court 3 and
rejuvenating court 4 as well as marking out 2 mini courts. We have had 3 companies provide us with quotes
and we have also submitted the required planning application for the additional floodlights. We are also
hopeful that we will receive a grant from Sport Scotland for part of the cost and are going through the funding
application process.
Active Schools
We have been working with the local Active Schools Co-ordinator to run junior tennis sessions in August/
September. Robin Burns ran two coaching sessions for different ages and we had 14 juniors taking part.
Further sessions will be held in the new year as well as sessions for juniors interested in squash.
Tennis Mini Leagues
There has been a fantastic entry in the mini leagues with lots of singles matches being played Rome Masters,
Paris Master, US Open, Madrid Masters, World Tour Final Thank you to Alex for organising and just a
reminder if you haven’t paid your £3 entry to give it to Alex. Winners will be announced soon.
Tennis Juniors
Abercorn A's win their first two green ball matches against Tweeddale and Drummond.
Our first Junior match in decades took place against Tweeddale Squad on Sunday 31st August at Abercorn.
After a round of doubles and singles Abercorn won this friendly tie 5-1. The score was immaterial as the
intention was to give all players a run out in a league style format, with a view to entering the team in next
year’s Aegon leagues. A big thanks to the huge crowd of parents, grandparents and siblings who supported
and enjoyed a wonderful slap up tea after the tie
The team also enjoyed success in their match against Drummond
winning 5 sets to 1. Shot of the day went to Sean Gallagher for his
forehand drive volley in his marathon singles match.
Junior Club Champs
Sunday 7th September saw three matches of extremely high quality
tennis, amazing shots and good sportsmanship with crowds to rival the
recent senior tournament finals.
Results: Leo Dickson bt Felix Ross 6-4
Felix Ross bt Ian Hutchison 6-4
Leo Dickson bt Ian Hutchison 6-3
Well done to Leo who backed up his 2013 Orange Bowl title by winning the 2014 Green Bowl title.
The under 15 event did not go ahead and therefore Moray Stiven automatically retains his title.
Men’s Tennis Captain
Are you a good organiser? The club needs a Men’s 1st team captain. You would be the main point of contact
for the East of Scotland League matches and would be responsible for liaising with the men’s 2nd & 3rd team
captains to select and organise teams for league matches which run from April to June. Email
[email protected] for more information.
SQUASH NEWS
Squash Coach
Welcome to our new club squash coach Senga Macfie. Senga has a wealth of experience as a top
international player and is now putting all her skills and experience into coaching and developing others.
Senga runs a junior coaching session on Fridays 6pm-7pm so drop her an email if you are interested in
developing your skills and improving your game.
Individual and group coaching sessions available. Interested? Contact [email protected]
Squash Juniors
After an initial entry into Division 3, the Abercorn Junior squash team won their group and have now
established themselves in Division 2, despite being up against some very good opposition.
The team comprising Alasdair Bulloch, Clayton Woods and Andrew Bulloch, with occasional help from
Clayton's brother Lachlan are now being coached by Senga Macfie and are getting involved in some of the
other Junior competitions around Edinburgh, including the Local Graded Events and the Big Shots
Tournaments.
The latter is aimed at young people with more limited
experience of competitions, and is a great starter
event where you have to score as many points as
possible in seven minutes! There will be a Big
Shots Tournament held at Abercorn in January
so watch out for details and why not come
along and support your Junior Team.
