Build a Biome Project

Build a Biome Project
For this project, you will build a biome of your choice. You may choose any of the biomes in chapter six.
Date Due: Monday, November 24th
Requirements:
 Complete Biome Report Form.
o Turn in form and rubric with the project.
 Use small container, shoe box, or box lid for the biome.
o Include:
 At least 1 type of “vegetation”
 “Water”
 At least 2 kinds of “animals”
o Items are secured to the container.
 Projects turned in late will receive a 25% penalty on their project grade.
 See other side for checklist and further instructions and helpful resources.
Checklist:
Choose a biome: _________________________
Choose location of biome _________________________
o Example location for deciduous forest: North America or Europe (difference would be
the type of trees that are present)
 location for desert: Sahara Desert
Fill out the biome report to display in front of your project.
Display the most common types of vegetation (plants) for your biome.
o Pictures of the types of vegetation would be acceptable (such as pictures cut out of a
magazine and displayed by attaching toothpicks and securing them in the soil).
o Miniature “fake” plants would also be acceptable
o Whichever method you choose, make sure the “plants” are secured in your biome.
Make sure your biome includes the proper food (plants or other food) and water (can be
depicted by blue paper) to keep your animal alive.
Put your project together.
o Use a box or box lid (Example: shoe box or lid from a larger box)
o A box with a high back and low front would be perfect for containing any dirt or
materials you use but still allow your work to be seen well.
If you are doing an aquatic biome:
o You may use paper to imitate water.
 Water animals may be cut out and attached by toothpicks or hanging them with
fishing line.
o You may use a fishbowl and put an appropriate amount of water in it.
 The container must be able to be covered while being transported.
 Water animals could be displayed by plastic animals or real fish.
