Identify how sounds are made, associating some of
them with something vibrating.
Recognise that vibrations from sounds travel
through a medium to the ear.
Find patterns between the pitch of a sound and
features of the object that produced it.
Find patterns between the volume of a sound and
the strength of the vibrations that produced it.
Recognise that sounds get fainter as the distance
from the sound source increases.
Record findings using simple scientific
language, drawings and labelled diagrams.
These skills will be developed through:
Using a variety of materials and instruments in
investigations.

to inform the design of a functional product that
is fit for purpose
Generating, developing, modelling and
communicating ideas through discussion,
annotated sketches and prototypes
Selecting from and using a wider range of tools
and equipment to cut, shape, join and finish
accurately
Selecting from and using a wider range of
materials according to their functional properties
and aesthetic qualities
Evaluating own ideas and products against
design criteria and considering the views of
others to improve their work
Applying understanding of how to strengthen,
stiffen and reinforce more complex structures
Dear Parents/Carers,
This term we are developing scientific, geographical and art & design skills through our topics ‘What’s that Sound?’ ‘Let it flow!’ and ‘Bridges’.
We would like the children to complete one homework task from the list below. They can choose how they present their work but we are looking for
creative and imaginative outcomes that are presented with pride.
HOMEWORK TASKS
1) Produce a piece of poetry related to one of our topics.
2) Create a model of the human ear, including accurate details. Think about the different materials you will use to make this!
3) Present findings about a famous river in the world, using PowerPoint, a poster or leaflet.
4) Produce a piece of artwork related to rivers or water.
If the children complete anything using a computer, for example a PowerPoint presentation or video clip, please submit it on a memory stick or CD.
Homework deadline is Monday 27th March 2017, although completed pieces can be brought into school before this date to inspire others.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
