In Rowan class, we have decided to try something new and set homework every 2 weeks. This will give the children more time to learn and fully
embed the spelling of the year 3 / 4 words. They will receive a SaCaWaC to complete for one week, and for the second week will need to
complete some of the activities sent home at the beginning of this academic year (stuck in their homework books). If you need a new sheet
please ask. They will need to do one activity a day.
As usual, we continue to ask that the children write a sentence for each of the above words, making sure they know the difference between the
homophones.
Also, please read with an adult at least 3 times in the next week. Please can adults ensure they write a small comment, explaining some of the
conversations you have had about the books and then sign and comment.
Please also ensure you are practising your maths planets too.

Children learn spellings in a variety of different ways. I have suggested eight ways that you could try with them. From the group of
words on your SaCaWaC have a go at five of the following activities at home, on five different days. You must complete the activity for
each of your spelling words.
1. Write out spellings and split into syllables – e.g. o/rig/i/nal/ly
2. Pyramid/Triangular spellings – Write out each spelling as below

example
3. Write out your spellings writing the consonants in one colour and the vowels in another. If the letter ‘y’ is being used as a vowel, write
it in a third colour. Always create a key for this task.

4. Write out spelling and list all the other words within it – e.g. originally – or, rig, in, all
5. Write out spelling in three different colours and three different styles. E.g. originally, originally originally – you can do bubble writing,
spiky writing- whatever you want.
6. Look, cover, write, check spellings – Look at spelling – cover it up -write it out – check it. Repeat this three times for each spelling.
7. Either type out each word three times on the computer. You can then go onto the Wordle website (www.wordle.net) and paste them in
to create Wordle pattern. Or write out three times in best handwriting.
8. Get someone to test you on your spellings, writing them in you jotter. Get the person testing you to mark your spellings and write
those that you get wrong 10 times into your jotter.
The children will be assessed on their spellings on the Monday the homework is handed in.
