Significant padding under the heel area of the shoe. 2. They should flex easily under the ball of the foot (and nowhere else). 3. They should have a firm heel cup to hold the foot in position. 4. They should be padded inside for comfort, and vented for evaporation. 5. The laces should be firmly secured so that the support structures of the shoe can do their job.
