Our Year 3—6 students had a wonderful time at the
Skateboard Workshop in April.
A message from our Principal ...
It has been an exciting and busy fortnight since our last newsletter. We have all
been very impressed with the way students have prepared for their NAPLAN and
congratulate them on giving it their best. We look forward to seeing some positive
results later in the year.
Curriculum Day
Tomorrow, Friday 12th May, will be a Curriculum day, so students will not be required at
school. We will see you all on Monday ready for a new week of learning.
Mother’s Day
I would like to acknowledge the amazing turn out for our Mother’s Day breakfast
this morning. It was wonderful to see so many Mothers and Grandmothers in the
gym enjoying themselves. Thank you to all the staff and parents who contributed
to the success of the morning. I would also like to thank all the parents who
helped with the Mother’s Day Stall. Without your help, we would be unable to
provide such wonderful programs for our students. I would like to thank Lyn
Courtice, Kristy Drake, Tristin Hluschko, Natacha Kolak, Diane Hanmer and Sharon
Alton for their contributions to ensuring that the Mother’s Day festivities were a
success. We wish all Mothers and Grandmothers a wonderful day on Sunday.
Absences
Please inform the office if your child will be absent. We will be sending notes
home with students to confirm reasons for absence. Please ensure that these are
returned in a timely manner, so that we may update our records. If your child is
going to be absent, a call to the office in the morning would be appreciated.
Meeting with teachers
Please feel free to organise regular meetings with your child’s teacher or check in
with them regularly about your child’s progress. Teachers are more than happy to
provide you with any necessary information and to provide you with tips on how to
help your child improve in literacy and numeracy.
Have a great weekend.

Grades 3—6
Mr Carmichael
In Orange 3-6, we have been developing our skills in narrative writing. While we know that every
narrative has a title, orientation, problem, sequence of events, solution and coda, we have
recently discovered that the magic is in the detail.
Using the seven perspectives (shape, colour, size, number, position, texture and doing) as a
guide, we have been crafting a range of descriptive paragraphs to describe settings and
characters.
“The castle is big and beautiful. In front of the classroom is a moat and behind it is a rainbow.
There are deers, swans and ducks near the castle. Behind it is Tinkerbell. The people in the castle
are happy and dance in the ballroom. There are twenty one people is the classroom. There are
many plants and trees. Tinkerbell is flying happily. The animals are enjoying their afternoon.”
Sophie, Grade 3
“One stormy night, there was a big forest. It was scary and dark with big trees. It was cold and
frightening. In the forest was a castle. It was a big and scary castle – a big scary death castle. In
the castle was a big, mean ruler names Hero O’Brien. He was the most dangerous killer in the
whole world and he was the scariest man in the world too.”
Tejay, Grade 4
“I can see that the beautiful ocean is a huge, salty place that you can swim in. It is full of sea
creatures. I can see that the sea is a greenish-blue colour. I can see that the sea is a curvy place
for all these cute creatures to live in. I can
see that the sand feels crunchy and salty. The
coral feels very rough. I can see that there is
one hundred fish swimming in the ocean.”
Nykia, Grade 5
“Faith is a kind girl with black hair and blue
eyes and she has a birthmark shaped like an
owl on her lower back. She is sad about the
plane crash that destroyed her family. She
was adopted and raised by lions and she is
kinder than ever.”
Brylee, Grade 6
