Dorchester County Public Schools Every Child A Success! SUPERINTENDENT'S PRESS RELEASE Henry V. Wagner Jr., Ed.D., Superintendent DATE: June 8, 2015 Sandy Hill Elementary School’s 4th and 5th Grade Formal Luncheon and Dance One of the most anticipated events at Sandy Hill Elementary School each year is the 4th and 5th Formal Luncheon and Dance. This year was no exception. After a day of touring Mace’s Lane Middle School, followed by the 5th grade award and promotion ceremony, 4th and 5th grade students were served lunch in a formal setting and then got to dance the rest of the day away in the gymnasium. During the luncheon, staff at Sandy Hill Elementary School waited on the students as if they were dining at a fancy restaurant. Young men were expected to pull out the chairs for the young ladies and all students used their best manners that they had practiced earlier in the week with Character Counts Coach and volunteer Mrs. Winterbottom. It was a sight to behold. Music for the dance was provided by 5th grade’s very own Tunisia Waller, who did a phenomenal job keeping the gym hopping with both contemporary and slow dances, during which students had the opportunity to practice their formal dancing skills they had practiced with another one of our amazing Character Counts Coaches and volunteers, Mrs. Tyler. Everyone had a blast and even some of the teachers and chaperones at the dance cut loose a bit.
