Detecting Correct Label
Problem
An automotive manufacturer was failing regulatory
compliance checks and experiencing high field rework
costs due to missing or incorrect labels on an auto
chassis. Manual in-line inspection to check for presence
of the correct label was both expensive and unreliable.
Solution
A Checker® vision sensor was installed. Checker’s part
finding sensor identifies a reference feature on each
chassis. The reference feature is used to find the desired
label location. Checker then uses its pattern sensor to
inspect that location and compare it to a stored reference
image of the correct label. Use of the part finding sensor
to locate the inspection point provides consistent and
reliable readings even when position of the chassis varies.

Field rework costs and failure at compliance checks were
reduced by reliably identifying missing or incorrect labels
before vehicles were delivered to dealerships. Quality
control costs were reduced by eliminating the need for an
expensive manual inspection.
