AN ACT INCREASING THE SALARIES OF DIST R I C T ATTORNEYS AND ASSISTANT D I S T R I C T
ATTORNEYS.
Be it enacted, e t c . , as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 12 of the General Laws is hereby amended by s t r i k i n g out section 15, as most recently amended by
section 1 of chapter 632 of the acts of I975, and inserting in
place thereof t h e following s e c t i o n : Section 15. D i s t r i c t attorneys shall devote t h e i r entire time
d u r i n g o r d i n a r y business hours to t h e i r d u t i e s , shall neither
d i r e c t l y nor i n d i r e c t l y engage in the practice of law, and shall
receive from t h e commonwealth a salary of f o r t y - f i v e thousand
dollars a n n u a l l y .
SECTION 2. Said chapter 12 is hereby f u r t h e r amended by
s t r i k i n g out section 16 and i n s e r t i n g in place thereof the following:
Section 16. Assistant d i s t r i c t attorneys shall devote t h e i r time
d u r i n g o r d i n a r y business hours to t h e i r d u t i e s , shall neither
d i r e c t l y nor i n d i r e c t l y engage in the practice of law and shall
receive from the commonwealth salaries as f o l l o w s : - f o r t h e
Suffolk d i s t r i c t , t h r e e assistants, a sum not exceeding f o r t y
thousand f i v e h u n d r e d d o l l a r s ; nine assistants, a sum not e x ceeding t h i r t y - s i x thousand d o l l a r s ; twelve assistants, a sum not

SECTION 3. Section 20A of said chapter 12 is hereby f u r t h e r
amended by s t r i k i n g out t h e last sentence, as most recently
amended by section 3 of chapter 542 of the acts of 1976, and
i n s e r t i n g in place thereof the following sentence:
Such special assistants shall have all the powers of an assistant d i s t r i c t a t t o r n e y , and shall receive from the commonwealth a
salary not exceeding eighteen thousand dollars.

AN A C T RELATIVE TO THE FURNISHING
GAS AND ELECTRICITY TO A CONDOMINIUM.

Be it enacted, e t c . , as follows:
Chapter 164 of t h e General Laws is hereby amended by i n s e r t i n g after section 94G the following s e c t i o n : Section 94H. No gas or electric company shall f u r n i s h gas or
e l e c t r i c i t y to the common areas and facilities which are f o r the
exclusive use of the owners of a condominium, as defined in
section one of chapter one hundred and e i g h t y - t h r e e A, at a
rate higher than t h a t charged f o r gas and electricity f u r n i s h e d
to i n d i v i d u a l units of the condominium which rate shall be set
f o r t h in t h e schedules of such gas or electric company applicable
to residential use.
The department may establish regulations
necessary to c a r r y out the provisions of this section.

CERTAIN JUSTICES TO BE FIRST JUSTICES.

Be it enacted, e t c . , as follows:
SECTION 1 . Paragraph ( b ) of section 6A of chapter 218 of
the General Laws, as appearing in section 174 of chapter 478 of
the acts of I978, is hereby amended by s t r i k i n g out clause (5)
and i n s e r t i n g in place thereof the following c l a u s e : - (5) as
p r o v i d e d in the preceding section s i x , he shall be eligible to be
a f i r s t justice of t h e division to which he is appointed and the
