We hope you enjoy a summer of amazing concerts in beautiful Sigmund Stern Grove. This Festival Guide will give you all the information you will need to enjoy your concert experience. See you at the Grove! Location Sigmund Stern Grove is located at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. A limited number of handicapped permit parking spaces will be available on Sloat Boulevard, just past the main entrance to the park at 19th and Sloat. Stern Grove is NOT in Golden Gate Park. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Concert Time MUNI Buses All Sunday concerts begin at • 23-Monterey and 28-19th Avenue 2:00 p.m. Sigmund Stern Grove is a public park and opens at sunrise. Admission Free All concerts are completely admission-free. No tickets are required. There is limited space available and entrance to the Concert Meadow is not guaranteed if capacity is reached. Directions The Festival encourages everyone to take public transportation. The park is accessible by MUNI bus and metro lines. There is no public parking facility at Stern Grove. If you must drive, PLEASE RESPECT OUR NEIGHBORS! Do not park in or block driveways. Violators will be cited and towed. A passenger drop-off zone is located at the main entrance to Stern Grove at 19th and Sloat. • Exit at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard MUNI Metro • K-Ingleside or M-Oceanview • Exit at St. Francis Circle and walk two blocks west on Sloat Boulevard BART From the East Bay • To Civic Center and transfer to MUNI Metro K-Ingleside or M-Oceanview • To Glen Park and transfer to MUNI bus 23-Monterey • To Daly City and transfer to MUNI bus 28-19th Avenue Bay Bridge to 101-South to 280-South. Exit at Ocean Avenue and turn right. Bear right onto Junipero Serra. Turn left at Sloat Boulevard. DRIVING DIRECTIONS Complimentary bike valet service is available at the 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard entrance to Stern Grove. There is no public parking facility in Stern Grove. From the North Bay Golden Gate Bridge to 19th Avenue/Park Presidio exit. Continue on 19th Avenue. Turn right at Sloat Boulevard. From the South Bay 280-North to 19th Avenue exit. At the first stoplight, bear right onto Junipero Serra. Turn left at Sloat Boulevard. BICYCLES The bike valet is open from 10:00 a.m. until one hour after the concert ends. Bikes are not allowed in the Concert Meadow or Esplanade at Stern Grove. Seating The concerts begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. For the safety of our patrons, the Concert Meadow is closed to admittance once capacity is reached. The best way to ensure you will have a seat is to get there early. Do not leave blankets, tarps, and chairs unattended in the Concert Meadow to reserve space. At least one person must be present in order to stake your claim to the space. Blankets and ground covers are restricted in size to 8 x 10 feet due to space limitations. For the safety of our patrons, all unattended items such as blankets, ground covers, bags, backpacks, coolers, etc. will be removed from the Concert Meadow and can be retrieved at the Information Booth in the Esplanade. We want everyone to enjoy the concerts. Be respectful of people around you and please share your space and make room for others. PICNIC TABLE SEATING Picnic table seats are reserved for Members of Friends of Stern Grove Festival. Reserved picnic table seating is available to Members of Friends of Stern Grove Festival at the $150 and up level. For more details, visit www.sterngrove.org/membership. PICNIC TABLE LOTTERY The Festival gives away a limited number of picnic table seats through a weekly Picnic Table Lottery. Households can enter to receive six picnic table seats at one concert per season. Entries will be chosen at random and notified the week before the concert. Entries must be received by the Monday before the concert you want to attend. Households may submit one entry per concert or choose multiple concert dates on one entry. Duplicate entries will be discarded. Enter at www.sterngrove.org/picnictableseats. HILLSIDE AND WEST MEADOW SEATING The hillside is available for seating, but please tread lightly since the area is steep and overuse can cause erosion. Be sure you are not sitting on or blocking a path. If you arrive late and cannot find a spot in the Concert Meadow, the West Meadow is also open for seating. UMBRELLAS, TABLES AND CHAIRS To ensure visibility for all patrons tents large tables, and large shade structures are not allowed. You are welcome to set up a beach umbrella, but be aware that it must be down prior to the performance or if asked by a member of the Stern Grove Festival staff. Chairs should be low to the ground and have backs at shoulder height. No highback chairs. If you are asked to remove an umbrella or chair it is only so that everyone can see better. Please be considerate so everyone can enjoy the day! Services for Senior & Disabled Patrons PARKING A limited number of handicapped permit parking spaces will be available on Sloat Boulevard, just past the main entrance to the park at 19th and Sloat. Round-trip, wheelchair accessible shuttle service is provided between 19th Avenue/Sloat Boulevard and the Esplanade. The shuttle runs from 10:00 a.m. until the concert starts at 2:00 p.m. The shuttle resumes service at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 5:30 p.m. SEATING Bench seating is available on a first-come, firstserved basis for seniors over the age of 65 or disabled patrons and one guest. Bench seating is limited and generally full by 1:30 p.m., and on some days, the benches can reach capacity even earlier. If the senior and disabled bench seating section in the Concert Meadow is at capacity, patrons will be informed by the shuttle attendant before they board the shuttle that they will have to find seating elsewhere in the Concert Meadow. WHEELCHAIRS Wheelchairs are accommodated in the Concert Meadow. Please see an usher for assistance. Stern Grove Festival Map Concert Meadow Closing Seating at Stern Grove Festival is first-come first-served. For the comfort and safety of our guests, the Concert Meadow will be closed to further entry if and when capacity is reached. An announcement will be made 30 minutes prior to the closing of the Concert Meadow. Guests who arrive before the Concert Meadow closes will receive a hand stamp at the entrances and can pass in and out of the Concert Meadow throughout the day. Any guests who arrive at the 19th and Sloat Boulevard entrance after the Concert Meadow closes will be directed to the West Meadow area and will not be allowed to enter into the Concert Meadow. The West Meadow area can be accessed from the Vale Avenue entrance to the park. When the announcement is made that the Concert Meadow is closing, incoming shuttle service to the Concert Meadow will be terminated. Security & Safety Your safety and comfort are important. Please follow the instructions of any security staff, house staff, or police officer. If you have a problem, or if you witness a problem, please notify a volunteer, security member, or staff member. If you or someone in your group is injured, there is a First Aid booth in the Esplanade to assist patrons. All unattended items such as blankets, ground covers, bags, backpacks, coolers, etc. will be removed from the concert meadow and can be retrieved at the Information Booth in the Esplanade. Rules To Know Lost & Found is prohibited. Smoking is a fire and safety hazard and is not tolerated in the park. Lost and found items are kept at the Information Booth the day of the concert. After the concert, contact Stern Grove Festival at (415) 252-6252. Smoking in all areas of Sigmund Stern Grove Pets (except for service dogs) are not allowed in the Concert Meadow. Leashed pets are welcome in the West Meadow. Aisles and walkways must be kept clear at all times. Strollers are allowed, provided they are folded down during the performance and not blocking walkways or in the aisles. The backstage area is off-limits to the public. Food & Beverages The Grove Cafe is located in the Esplanade and a portion of all sales is donated to the Festival. You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages to the concerts. Beer and wine are permitted only in the Concert Meadow and West Meadow. Alcohol is not sold at Stern Grove Festival. Management reserves the right to revoke admittance. All rules are subject to the Merchandise Unauthorized recording and photography Festival and artist merchandise are available from the Festival Shop in the Esplanade. Restrooms & Amenities See the Map of Stern Grove for restrooms, wheelchair-accessible restrooms, ATM, Information Booth, First Aid, water fountains, and other amenities. Trash & Recycling Please pick up your trash and dispose of it in the trash containers, compost and recycling bins. Be respectful of neighbors and PLEASE DON’T LITTER in their yards, on the sidewalks, or in the streets. Weather Explore Music & More The weather at Stern Grove is variable. Come prepared for anything and bring hats, sunscreen and layers. Stern Grove Festival’s Education and Outreach Programs Get Involved! Stern Grove Festival provides an array of outreach programs for youth and adults. Kids Days, Kids Camp, and Kid Stage, are designed to inform, enagage and inspire the next generation of artists and arts audiences. Stern Grove Festival relies on the support of people like you to make these admission-free concerts possible. The Festival is a non-profit organization, raising more than two million dollars every year for artistic fees, operations, and production costs. We ask that you please give what you can and support the Festival! MAKE A DONATION During intermission and before the concert, a volunteer with a red balloon asking for donations may approach you, or you can drop donations in the donation bins at the entrances to the Concert Meadow.
