MATERIALS NEEDED
• 3 strips of drapable and lightweight contrasting fabric 81″ (2¼ yds)
long by 6″ tall.
• Thread
SCARF CONSTRUCTION
VIEW A
1. Cut 3 strips of contrasting fabric with soft drape, 6″ by 81″.
2. Make 1/4″ slits every 15″ along both long sides of each strip. This
will leave the last slit only 6″ from the end.
3. Right Sides Together (RST), sew the strips together along the
long edge with 1/2″ seam allowance, matching the slits. Press seam
allowance to darkest or least transparent strip.
4. Right side up, starting at the end where first slit is 15” from the end, take
the bottom corner and place it on the left side of first slit along the top edge.

8. Turn scarf right side out.
9. Lay the scarf flat (as illustrated).
10. Fold both ends in to meet each other.
11. Twist one end over (as illustrated below).
12.Maintaining the twist, bring that end over and lay on top of other
end with raw edges together. Pin together (RST) the section of
each end that has the three fabric strips perpendicular to the seam
line. (Like fabrics will be sewn to like fabric.)
13. RST, with 1/2" seam allowance stitch the two ends together
across the three matching strips.

14. Turning the remaining edges of the opening, right sides
together, stitch from one end of the seam in step 13 to about the
middle; back stitch.
15. Starting at the other end of the opening, stitch as before as far
as possible; backstitch. This step will be somewhat difficult as you
have very little room to work but well worth the effort in the end.
16. There will be a small opening. Stitch closed by hand using a
blind stitch.
