In our church’s celebrations, we celebrate the Past. The Advent time in the past is the time before the birth of Christ. The Jewish people were awaiting the promised Messiah to free them from slavery and oppression at different times in their history. They believed God would be true to His promise. They were waiting for an earthly savior. God’s promise was fulfilled in Jesus, therefore the title given Him, Christ, which means Savior. In the gospel of St. Luke 2: 21-40, we read about Simeon and Anna who had been waiting their whole life for the Messiah. Mary and Joseph presented the infant Jesus as prescribed by the Law and Simeon and Anna were present. Both recognized the infant Jesus as the Messiah and praised God. We celebrate the Present. We celebrate Christ’s coming now. He comes to us in Sacred Scriptures; He is the Word that became flesh. He is present to us in the Eucharist; His own words to us are “This is my Body.” We encounter Christ in our neighbor: He tells us whatsoever you do to the least among you, you do to me. Therefore, Advent time is not only the four weeks before December 25 when we celebrate His birth; Advent time is every day of our lives, preparing ourselves to be ready for Christ. We celebrate the future, the time when Christ will come again and we meet Him face to face. Our liturgical celebrations remind us to prepare and be ready for His coming. This is a joyful time, because we await our Messiah, our Savior. God’s blessings, Fr. Ryan Assembly 1087 Faithful Navigator’s Message Brother Sir Knights and Ladies, It’s hard to believe we’re already celebrating Advent which mean the birth of our Savior is only a few weeks away, Christmas Day. While this is time for parties, family gatherings, and yes presents, let us always remember to Keep Christ in Christmas and celebrate the beginning of our Liturgical calendar. This is also the time our Assembly remembers the lives of our deceased Sir Knights at our Annual Memorial Mass and Service on 12/11 (see details in this newsletter). Tempus fugit, memento mori. This is time to celebrate our past of those that have shaped this great Assembly, the present and what we do now to prepare the coming of Jesus and we not know the time nor the hour, and the future as Jesus will come again for us to meet him face to face along with all those that have gone before us. What a wonderful evening of fellowship and good food we had at our open meeting on 11/30 where we honored our new members, our ladies, and honored our country and our veterans. Unfortunately, our guest speaker, Lt. Col. Munson had a family crisis he needed to immediately attend to so he sends his sincere apologies for having to miss our meeting. He would like to come to a future meeting to speak of his Patriotic youth conferences that we have supported for a number of years. We have a great group of new Sir Knights and Ladies that are eager and excited to be a part of this great Assembly and ready to take an active role. In the present we must always adapt to change just as those before us had to do even when difficult decisions had to be made. The way we’ve always done things in the past may not always be feasible in the future and we never want to jeopardize our existence. We will not always agree 100%, but we MUST always work together for the good of our great Assembly and most of all for our Order. We are all Brother Sir Knights and have a strong example to lead as being a Knight is not just sometimes, but is a way of life. God’s blessings to each of your families and have a Blessed and Merry Christmas Season! Fraternally, John Vrla Faithful Navigator When Friends Depart Safely Home Be still my soul when dearest friends depart and all is darkened in this vale of tears. Then shall you better know His love, His heart, Who comes to soothe your sorrow and your fears. Be still my soul: your Jesus can repay, from His own fullness, all He takes away. I am home in heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely home in heaven at last. There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remainethYou shall rest in God’s own land. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting Oh, the joy to see you come! WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA Assistance is needed and all are welcome to attend the ceremony and lay wreaths on the graves afterward. You need to be at DFW National Cemetery no later than 10:30AM and follow the signs to the ceremony site that begins promptly at 11:00AM.
