Ashley, LIVESTRONG Program Volunteer “I was asked a very simple question of ‘why do I volunteer at the YMCA?’ As I sat down to write this, I realized this question was not as simple as I thought. I have a very strong passion to help the people in this community live a happier, healthier life. I am currently a Registered Nurse at the hospital, and one of my daily tasks is teaching surgical clients’ lifestyle changes needed to avoid further hospital visits. My job has given me a lot of great experience, but I felt like I needed a new way to meet, and teach clients outside of the hospital setting. When I signed up to volunteer with the LIVESTRONG group at the Y, I knew I would be helping out with a group of clients who were looking to feel a little stronger and more empowered each day. I never could have guessed how much this group of people would truly touch my life. Each one has a different story, and a different struggle that makes their fitness journey unique to them. As this 12-week program comes to an end, I am even more energized to increase my involvement in this community, and to support more people through their diverse life changes. More than anything, I want to help turn my passion into their passion.” 29 CHILD CARE BIRTHDAY PARTIES Celebrate the big day in a big way at the YMCA!
