POROUS PAVING / POROUS PARKING GRID SYSTEM
INTRO
The PG-45 Porous Parking Grid is a HDPE plastic grid system that is versatile for applications requiring the installation of a driveway, parking area, walkway, golf cart part path for walking upon,
driving and parking or commercial fire lanes. Using the PG-45 in these applications eliminates typical materials commonly used such as asphalt, concrete, cement paver or interlocking brick type of
products.
The foremost reason/benefit of using a Porous Parking System is Storm Water Management, a
large concern across North America. Since the PG-45 is 90% porous, it act like a uniform series of
drains, allowing water to seep directly back into the water table across the area of the installation,
thus the water is not running through drains and into the municipalities water systems, which lessens the load at treatment facilities.
Also these areas compared to conventional hardscape are typically not added into the allowable lot
coverage percentage of parking area that bylaws regulate making it usually possible to have a
greater parking area than may otherwise be allowed or in some municipalities it could increase the
allowable building size on the same property.

HOME GRID SYSTEM
Eliminates muddy pathways around the home. Easy to use and install, makes the PG-45 ideal for
use between houses, at the cottage or anywhere erosion and water cause damage to the grass
area.
Home owners can install there own grass or gravel walkways, parking pad or even driveways.
Driveways require a properly prepared base which can be done by a qualified/experienced landscape company.
Residential installations by home owners have been
done in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec. As well
as many in various places in the US.

Panel size: 24” x 24” x 1.75”h.
1.
Excavate area as per Engineers recommendation.
2.
Prepared base material to Engineers/ Building Code specifications. The depth of this base is determined by
the soil structure and the intended load requirements. Note: Typical base material to be clean sharp sand
and ¾” minus gravel, 4”–12” in depth, with 98% porosity, to allow water to seep through.
3.
Test the area with water to be sure it drains well. Add to low spots and level as required.
4.
Top with 1” layer of sharp sand, level and roll smooth.
5.
With the rounded side down, snap the grids together covering the entire area. Use the holding rings are not
required.
6.
If sod is to be installed, go to instruction 9, skipping point 7 and 8.
7.
Fill the cells with top soil growing medium. Some amount of seed can be mixed into the soil. Top dress the
area with seed and then water surface. Use a No. 1 hardy fescue grass seed mix that is appropriate in your
geographical region.
8.
The installation should not be driven on until after the 3rd cutting cycle, except in emergencies.
9.
Sod installation. Fill the cells to approximately 90% full with a loose packed top soil growing media. The sod
should be quite close cut with a minimal amount of dirt on the root system. Washed sod, if available, is recommended. Once the sod has been installed on the grid, a landscape roller should be used to firmly press
the sod into the grid. Water to ensure growth.
10. The installation should not be driven on until after the 3rd cutting cycle, except in emergencies.

Anchor the grid with landscape spikes, one in each grid around the perimeter and high traffic areas. Additionally, install anchors through out the entire area.
7.
Fill the grids with 1/2” - 3/4” angular gravel, slightly over flush of the grid top.
8.
Compact the gravel with a vibration roller the gravel. Wetting can aid in compaction.
9.
Add gravel if any low spots are found, then any excess gravel can be swept away, leaving the gravel flush to
the top of the grid.
10. The installation is now ready for use.
