52 Years Ago: On Nov. 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in
Dallas, Texas, while on a visit as part of an early start to his 1964 re-election campaign. Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the president of the United States aboard
Air Force One just a few hours later. The Syracuse community observed all of the
events surrounding the assassination, including the burial at Arlington National
Cemetery in Virginia, via continuous television coverage. JFK was buried in a casket
made by the Marsellus Casket Co. of Syracuse. — Daniel Connors for the OHA
