CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY
Every year, members of the Neighbour Hood Watch Committee co-ordinate an effort for Clean Up Australia Day. This year it
falls on Sunday the 1st March. If you have other commitments but still wish to contribute some time prior to the actual day,
bags can be collected from our co-ordinator ahead of time and can be dropped off at our rally point for collection by the
Salisbury Council.
Clean Up Australia Day is a great opportunity to teach children to look after the environment and for an hour or two of work it
is very satisfying to see large areas in our parks and wetlands clear of rubbish and debris.
CONTACTS:
Acting SECRETARY
(Lolita)
[email protected]
TREASURER (Ron)

COMMUNITY EVENT
In May this year there will be a community event held at the Pooraka Farm Community Centre (opposite the Montague Farm
Foodworks). Montague Farm Neighbourhood Watch will be holding a BBQ as part of the festivities so watch this space!
Details of the event will be published in our April newsletter.
MYWHEELS - VEHICLE THEFT PREVENTION, REPORTING & RECOVERY
Australia has one of the highest rates of vehicle theft in the world. In fact, each year:

around 60,000 cars are reported stolen and two-thirds are never recovered

nearly 9,000 motorbikes are stolen and less than 30% are recovered; and

it’s estimated more than 200,000 bicycles are stolen with less than 5% recovered.
It is a major social and economic problem that costs the community more than $670 million per annum, not counting the
significant costs associated with policing, courts and correctional services.
To tackle the problem, Crime Stoppers South Australia gathered together some of the best vehicle theft experts in Australia to
discuss ways to help owners best protect their pride and joy, and to reduce vehicle theft across the country.
The outcome is the MyWheels smartphone app – which can be used for any vehicle with a registration or unique serial
number and provides the owner with valuable assistance if it’s ever stolen or seriously damaged.
MyWheels has a number of handy theft prevention, reporting and recovery features, including:
 securely and conveniently storing important insurance, registration and licence details
 store photos of a vehicle’s identifying features or accessories
 handy security tips
 navigation support – providing detailed directions back to where a vehicle was last parked
 being able to ‘rate’ the safety of a parking location and share with other users
 reporting theft or serious damage to police and an insurer
 sending an alert to other users if a vehicle is stolen; and
 posting updates if someone spots a stolen or abandoned vehicle.
The MyWheels app is available FREE to download from Apple iTunes and Google Play

There were however a further 10 incidences in the commercial area across the wetlands which
occurred on Langford St, Research Rd, Bridge Rd and McGowan St. This area is only a skip and a
jump away from Montague Farm so it is important that we also remain vigilant and report any
disturbance (e.g. alarms triggered, guard dogs barking excessively) to 131 444.
Many years ago before I got involved with Neighbourhood Watch, I was working throughout the
night in my study and heard heavy machinery being started in the commercial zone. I thought to
myself “who on earth would be starting up heavy machinery at 3am in the morning?” It turns
out that the answer to my question is “thieves – that’s who”! A few days later, when reading the
SAPOL news site, I found out that a bulldozer and low loader had been stolen from the area that
night. Lesson learned. Hear it or see it – report it!
