Some basic info about The Field Museum’s 2017 Dozin’ with the Dinos

What is the Dozin’ with the Dinos overnight program like?
Bring your sleeping bag and explore one of the most exciting spots in town!
Dozin’ with the Dinos is a unique opportunity for children ages 6-12 to spend the night at The
Field Museum. Spend your evening enjoying workshop activities like dissecting owl pellets
and meet live insects from around the world! Enjoy a snack break to fuel yourself for a selfguided tour of your favorite exhibits – in the dark! (Make sure to bring your flashlight!) Before
you know it you’ll be crawling into your sleeping bag in one of our wondrous exhibitions.
When are Dozin’ with the Dinos overnights offered?
Overnights begin Fridays at 5:45pm and end Saturdays at 9am. We are offering one Saturday

Who are Dozin’ with the Dinos overnights designed for?
Dozin’ with the Dinos overnights are for children ages 6 to 12 and their chaperones.
Individual families and groups can register for this event. Scouts, schools, churches,
community groups and others are welcome at the overnight. Groups can range in size, but
must have at least 1 chaperone for every 3 children. Minimum group size is 15.
Chaperones must be at least 21 years old. Children must be between the ages of 6 and
12. We have the right to refuse entry if age requirements are not met.
If you have a child 13 years or older, check out our programs designed especially for teens:

How much does a Dozin’ with the Dinos overnight cost?




Group Package (15 or more people): $60 per person. Groups with fewer than 15 members
must register at the Family rate.
Family Package: $65 per person ($60 for Field Museum members).
Premium Package: $78 ($68 for Field Museum members). You can sleep in the Dinosaur Hall
of Evolving Planet! These tickets are available for individual families of fewer than 15 people.
Due to limited space, Premium Package tickets are not available to large groups and are filled
on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tour Package: $90 ($80 for Field Museum members) Guests can sleep in the Dinosaur Hall
and go on a behind-the-scenes tour with a Field Museum scientist. For families of fewer than 15
people.
 Tours take place from 7:00pm to 7:45pm in place of the first portion of the Workshop

time. Please note that the length and content of the tour make it a great option for
children ages 9 through 12 who are interested in learning more about science at The
Field Museum, but a tour may not be the best fit for younger children. Tours vary based
on scientists’ availability – you’ll always see something cool, but it may be fossils, bird
specimens, fish collections or another behind-the-scenes location at The Field Museum.
NOTE: there is a 10% (up to a maximum of $20) service fee on ticket transactions.
When should I register for Dozin’ with the Dinos?
Dates for the next year’s season are announced in July. If you know your schedule in advance, we
recommend registering as soon as possible. Every season a number of our overnight dates WILL
SELL OUT. Note that our overnight season for 2017 is January through May. There will not be
any overnights later in the year, so registering in 2016 is highly encouraged.
How do individual families purchase tickets for Dozin’ with the Dinos?
Families can purchase tickets online at http://www.fieldmuseum.org/overnights
Please note overnight tickets cannot be purchased on-site at the Museum.
How do groups purchase tickets for Dozin’ with the Dinos?

1. Choose a Group Leader – this is someone who will attend the event and serve as the
liaison to the Museum before and during the event.
2. The Group Leader will next complete the Group Registration Form, via Ticket Return, which
can be linked to at fieldmuseum.org/overnights
3. At the time of registration, groups will have to provide a 20% deposit, via major credit card,

4. Once the deposit is paid, the ticketing system will send a confirmation.
5. Any increase in group size can be addressed by emailing [email protected] or
calling our overnights event line at 312.665.7525.

Directions to The Field Museum
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
The #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express (Museum Campus) bus transports riders from the Orange, Green,
and Red line trains at the State Street and Roosevelt Road stations. This bus runs daily every 15 minutes
into the late evening. For more information on Metra, CTA and Pace connections, schedules, and fares,
call the RTA hotline at 312-836-7000 or visit www.rtachicago.com or www.transitchicago.com.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
The easiest route to the Museum Campus is via the 18th street and Lake Shore Drive entrance, immediately
south of Soldier Field. Exit Lake Shore Drive onto eastbound 18th Street and follow 18th Street/Museum
Campus Drive east of the stadium and north to the Museum Campus.
PARKING:
 Parking for participants is
included in the price of the overnight
ticket.
 Parking is reserved in the North
Garage – which is accessible via 18th
Street.
 Overnight guests may access the
North Garage starting at 5:00pm.
 On most days, participants can
take a parking ticket from the machine
and receive a validation ticket from
overnight check-in staff. Occasionally
the garage is on a cash-only pay-asyou-enter mode which means overnight
guests will not get a parking ticket but
will simply tell the garage staff person
they are attending the overnight to get
into the lot free of charge.
 No validation ticket will be
needed to exit the garage on these
days.
 All cars parking the garage must
exit by 9am Saturday morning to avoid
being towed.
 Please make sure to get a
validation ticket from overnight staff
during the event.
 Do not park in the East Lot – only
the North Garage is reserved for
overnight guests.
Note: The Museum will not reimburse
guests who pre-pay for their parking
or pay for parking without a
validation ticket!

gear, and make it to orientation at 6:30.
What should I do if my Group Leader has not yet arrived?
If your Group Leader cannot make it to check-in at 5:45pm, they should have a secondary leader check-in
for the group.
What if I arrive late?
We understand traffic getting into Chicago on a Friday night can be tough. Please make every effort to
arrive on time, but if you arrive late you can enter through the South Doors until 8pm. If you arrive after 8pm
you must walk around the building to the West Doors – the side of The Field Museum closest to Lake Shore
Drive. (Note that arriving after 8pm is strongly discouraged). No one will be admitted to The Museum after
9pm.
PARKING QUESTIONS
Where will I park?
Overnight guests can park in the Soldier Field North Garage. There is no additional charge for parking. The
parking lot will open to participants at 5pm. Do NOT park in the East Lot—only the North Garage is
reserved for overnight guests.
Want to know even more? Visit fieldmuseum.org/overnights, email us at: [email protected]
Or call:312.665.7525 The Field Museum 1400 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60605
Do I have to pay for overnight parking?
No - we’ve got your parking covered! Just park in the North Garage, get your ticket, show that ticket at
registration for your validation! When you leave in the morning, put the green ticket into the reader first, then
the yellow validation after.
Rarely, the garage will be cash-only, pay-as-you-enter. On those nights, tell the garage staff you’re there for
the overnight, and you are set!
Please use only the North Garage. If you use any other lot, or pre-pay without validation, we can’t reimburse
you.
When do I have to move my car?
You’re covered until 9 am following the overnight. After that, you’ll need to leave the North Garage, and if
you’re staying at the Museum for the day, find a metered spot or pay the daily rate in the garage.
Where should I park if I need a handicap accessible parking space/entrance?
Please coordinate with the Dozin’ with the Dinos staff 1 week in advance of the overnight in order to secure
a handicap accessible parking space and admittance through an accessible door. Email
[email protected] with any special parking requests.
FOOD QUESTIONS
Will dinner be provided?
No – The Museum provides a snack Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning. PLEASE eat dinner
before arriving to The Museum for check-in.
Can I have food delivered to The Field Museum or bring my own?
No – outside food is not allowed at the Museum. In order to help care for the Museum’s collections, no
outside food is allowed including soda, gum and candy.
All right - what food will be provided?
A late night snack will be provided at 8:30pm on the evening of the overnight, and a continental breakfast
will be provided at 7:30 am the following morning.
Can I eat food in the exhibit halls?
No, food is not allowed in the exhibits. In order to ensure the artifacts and specimens on display are
preserved for years to come, we only allow guests to eat in the designated areas on the ground level of the
Museum. Food found in the exhibit halls/sleeping areas will be confiscated.
What if I have an allergy or other dietary restrictions?
You will be allowed to bring your own food only under the following conditions:
o It must be sealed in a heavy-duty plastic container (Tupperware, not a Ziploc bag), labeled
with the guests name
o It must be given to an overnight staff member at check-in to be placed in the kitchen prep
area of the The Siragusa Center (the designated eating area) and left there for the duration
of the event (staff will get it for you during snack/breakfast)
o Items must be non-perishable, as overnight staff will not have access to refrigeration for
guests’ food
Any food not meeting these criteria or that is found in an exhibition hall will be immediately confiscated.

SPECIAL NEEDS
Who should I contact if I have a special need?
If you have special needs (such as need for 24 hour power for a CPAP machine, disabled access, or other
health conditions that need consideration) please call the overnight coordinator at 312.665.7525 at the time
of registration to speak about your requests for the evening.
Do not wait to contact staff as often arrangements need to be made within various Museum departments
and delaying requests may mean not being able to accommodate your needs.
SLEEP ARRANGEMENT QUESTIONS
Where will I be sleeping if I’m here with a group?
Each group will have a specific area designated as their sleep space. Sleeping maps will be handed out
during check-in. The space you are assigned depends on the size of your group. All groups will be sleeping
on the Main Level in the exhibit halls. Note that all the sleeping areas are carpeted.
Where will I be sleeping if I’m here as a Family (not part of a group)?
There will be a space reserved in an exhibition on the Main Level. All General overnight families will sleep
in this exhibit. The space assigned for families varies depending on the number of families attending the
overnight.
Where will I be sleeping if I have Premium Package tickets?
Premium Package guests sleep in the Evolving Planet exhibit on the Upper Level. The Genius
Hall of Dinosaurs is the space reserved for Premium Package guests; however, if you find a spot you like
elsewhere in the Evolving Planet exhibit, you are welcome to sleep there.
When can I set up my stuff?
Upon arrival guests are encouraged to leave their belongings in their sleeping area as a means of staking
out their own spot. Please do not spread out your gear until after snack time, so all guests can enjoy the
exhibits. For safety reasons, please be mindful to leave a clear walkway through exhibits when spreading
out your gear later in the evening. Outlets are available throughout the museum to inflate air mattresses but
some of them will lose power when we shut the lights out – so do this before 10:30 pm. Note that tents are
strictly prohibited. Twin sized air mattresses is the largest mattress size allowed at Dozin’ with the Dinos.
Will all-girls groups be sleeping in the same area as all-boys groups?
Sleep arrangements are based firstly on the size of the group and then on the gender of the group. Every
effort is made to put groups of the same gender in the same area. Sleep spaces in the exhibit halls are
clearly marked and, surprisingly for a big museum, most halls feel like your own little space.
Will I be warm or cold while I’m sleeping?
Both. We do our best to keep the temperatures moderate and comfortable during an overnight, but this is a
big building and temperature can vary from hall to hall. To be safe, we suggest bringing layers of clothes as in a t-shirt and a sweatshirt.
Will I have access to 24 hour electricity in my sleeping area?
Maybe. If you need a plug to inflate your air mattress, we recommend doing so before lights-out. In some
exhibitions, the power to the outlets will turn off when the lights are turned off. If you need 24 hour access
to electricity (for example, if you use a CPAP), please contact [email protected] at least one
week prior to the overnight event to make sure you are directed to a sleeping location that will have working
outlets.
