Hearing Assistance
Available
We celebrate Holy Communion weekly at Peace. All who seek God and are drawn to
Christ are welcome to come forward and receive bread and wine, visible signs of God’s
love. White grape juice is available in place of wine for those who wish. If you would like
to receive a gluten free wafer, please let an usher know. Parents, if you want your child to
receive a blessing instead of communion, you can request that when you come forward.
We Welcome Children
Children are welcomed and encouraged to participate in worship at Peace. Children’s
bulletins are available from the ushers. Families may also want to use the laminated
‘Children’s Order of Worship’ cards in the pew to help little ones learn the flow of the
worship service. Please note:
Nurture:
We offer Children's Time for children ages 4 through 9
(younger if accompanied by an adult) during the
regular sermon time.
Comfort:
We provide a staffed, fully-equipped nursery for
children 3 and younger. The nursery is down the
hallway on the left side of the sanctuary doors (as you
are facing them). The nursery has a viewing window
to the sanctuary and the sound system is piped-in if
you would like to stay with your child.

* Thanksgiving at the Table
P: Holy God,
our Maker, Redeemer, and Healer,
in the harmonious world of your creation,
the plants and animals,
the seas and stars
were whole and well in your praise.
Remembering, therefore,
his acts of healing,
his body given up,
and his victory over death,
we await that day when all the peoples
of the earth
will come to the river to enjoy the tree of life.
When sin had scarred the world,
you sent your Son to heal our ills
and to form us again into one.
Send your Spirit upon us and this meal:
as grains scattered on the hillside become
one bread,
so let your Church be gathered from the ends
of the earth,
that all may be fed with the Bread of life, your
Son.
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Through him all glory and honor is yours,
Almighty Father, with the Holy Spirit,
in your holy Church,
both now and forever.
Again, after supper, he took the cup,
gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
C: Amen

who sin against us.

Observations From the Church Office
Right Place, Right Time
As a child I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. I
remember one particularly traumatic event that occurred when I
was in elementary school. One day while heading down an empty
hall on my way to the boy’s room, I noticed a thin layer of water on
by Dan Brennan 6/11/2017
the floor just outside the door. As soon as I entered the bathroom,
the problem was obvious. It was an older school, and the urinals were the type that went all the
way down to the floor. Someone had stuffed paper into the drains at the bottom, and rigged the
handles to keep the water flowing. I bent down and was pulling the paper out of the drain, when in
walked the maintenance man. It was the elementary school equivalent of being caught standing
over a body with a knife in your hand. It just looked bad. Wrong place, wrong time!
I am a student of check out lines in grocery and big box stores. I carefully study the layout of the
lanes, and the volume of items in the carts. I look closely to see who might be holding a
checkbook, or might look confused about how to use a self-checkout. I weigh all of these factors
and a few others and then I invariably pick the slowest moving lane. I’m once again in the wrong
place at the wrong time.
When scheduling an appointment at the doctor’s office, I always ask for the first appointment of the
day, figuring that I won’t have to wait as no one is ahead of me. It never works. I once asked the
receptionist what time the first appointment would be, and she told me it was 8:00 a.m. I said I’ll
take it. She then proceeded to tell me that I could do that, but the doctor doesn’t usually get in until
8:30. Using my incredible aptitude for the wrong choice, I told her, I would take the 8:30
appointment. She said she could do that, but it would put me behind the person with the 8:00 a.m.
appointment. No matter what, I’m going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I often wonder if I had been around in the time of Jesus and His ministry, would I have been smart
enough to have been there for the Sermon on the Mount? Would I have known of the miraculous
things this teacher was doing? Would I have heard of His incredible love for me? Those who had
the privilege of hearing Jesus speak were certainly in the right place at the right time.
We may not have the same opportunity to witness Jesus speaking live and in person, but when we
pray, when we spend time with Him in quiet contemplation, we, too, are in the right place at the
right time. And no appointment is necessary.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, my lane is moving at last, as the customer in front of me has finally
found that elusive checkbook.

You’ll Never Miss It
Frustrated that income never covered expenses, a longtime church treasurer resigned. Another
member, who owned the town’s grain elevator, volunteered to take over with one stipulation: He
wouldn’t submit a report for the first year.
The puzzled board members agreed because they knew he was an honest man. After all, they
trusted him to process their grain.
By year’s end, the new treasurer gave a glowing report. The church’s building debt had been
erased. Staff salaries had increased 15 percent. And the budget showed a healthy balance.
When the shocked but delighted congregation asked for an explanation, the treasurer said, “Most
of you bring your grain to my elevator. When I paid you, I simply withheld 10 percent on your behalf
and gave it to the church in your name. You never missed it!”
Imagine what we could do for God if we willingly returned the first tenth of his gifts back to him.
LED Lighting Coming Soon
Our Property person, Jeff Preston has informed us that the conversion of our florescent light
fixtures to new, energy efficient LED models will be happening soon. Materials have been
ordered, and once they arrive, scheduling can being for a job estimated to take 2-3 days. The best
part of this conversion is that it will cost the church noting as it was done through a special program
sponsored by SMECO. Let Jeff know how much you appreciate his hard work on this project
which has taken several months to bring to fruition.

Live It Out
The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge
Jesus with their lips, walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an
unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.
