SUMMARYHIGHLIGHT Attached is a letter from Barb Girtman the Chair of the Economic
Development Committee of the Greater Union Life Center requesting financial support to
conduct a Community Business Expo at the Chisholm Center The date for the Expo is Saturday
May 17 2014 the event date was changed due to a scheduling conflict at the Center The
objectives and benefits outlined in the attached letter for the Community Business Expo are
similar to those held by the City of DeLand namely to establish a bridge for the development of
multi cultural relationships and provide business support and opportunities for minority and
disadvantaged businesses located within or serving the City For over a year the Economic
Development Committee has been working on establishing an enterprise center for MBEDBEs
and holding the Business Expo is a first step towards reaching this goal The Community Action
Coalition is supportive of this effort and one of their primary goals is encouraging economic
development opportunities within the Spring Hill community
The Committee is requesting a 2
500 donation from the City of DeLand which would help pay
for setup operations professional expenses promotional expenses and provide 1
000 for
business grant recipients In return the City of DeLand will be recognized on all publications
promotional materials and have a banner at the event

Thank you for taking the time to consider The Greater Union Life Center request As a
501 c3 not for profit organization our mission is to encourage the economic
empowerment of minority and disadvantaged communities
We have admired your outstanding leadership in the City of DeLand for years It is this
gratitude that compels us to volunteer our perspective and energy to facilitate the
expansion of economic opportunity to minorities and disadvantaged business owners In
partnership with other economic development organizations we intend to create an annual
Community Business Expo at the Chisholm Center This year the date has been set for
Saturday May 10 2014 from 10am2pm
Our objective is to identify local Black American Minority and Disadvantaged
businesses serving the Greater Spring Hill Community and West Volusia for
participation In addition we will host local experts for workshopsseminars to increase
awareness of local business resources available to everyone

endeavors the funds will be assigned as follows One thousand dollars in a grant for set
up operations and professional expenses one thousand as a sponsor media and
promotional expenses and five hundred dollars to be used toward business grant
recipients
As the premiere sponsor the City of DeLand will be used on anything published we will
prominently display a City of DeLand banner during the event provided by the City and
there will be 100 media inclusion In other words if you choose to support this event
our gratitude will be apparent to everyone
