Binks Model 41-11294 COMET 4-INCH AIR MOTOR (3" STROKE) SET-UP Attach the air motor to a fluid section as follows: 1. Remove upper tie rods from fluid section. 2. Pull air motor piston rod (10) out as far as possible. Attach air motor to fluid section by turning fluid section piston rod into air motor piston rod. 3. Install and tighten upper tie rods of fluid section into air motor base (14). 4. Line up tie rods with holes in fluid section spacer ring. Attach nuts and tighten securely. 5. Install assembled pump onto pump mount. 6. Attach air supply to air motor inlet. The pump is now ready for operation. DISASSEMBLY OF COMET 4" AIR MOTOR ! Caution Do not operate air motor any faster than is required to give desired spray pattern. Maximum recommended speed is 60 cycles per minute. Refer to nozzle sheet for proper spray patterns. (3" STROKE) 1. Remove cylinder (34) by using a large adjustable wrench on built-in hexagon on top of cylinder. Turn cylinder counterclockwise to remove. 2. Loosen nut (11) using a spanner wrench or piece of rod. 3. Pull out piston assembly (28), tube (17) and rod (10) from head (20). 4. Place piston assembly, tube and rod in vise, clamping on flats at end of rod. 5. Remove screw (32) with an allen wrench. Pull piston assembly off tube, and inspect o-ring (4) in piston for damage (replace if necessary). 6. To inspect and/or replace valves (5) in piston, remove stopnuts (6), plate (31), plate (29), and plate (26). 7. Check all rubber parts, cylinder and tube for NOTE When replacing poppet valve set (5) on BOTTOM of piston, first remove the ribs which hold the three valves together (see diagram at right). wear or damage (replace if necessary). 8. Reassemble air motor in reverse order, making certain that the wave washer (2) is between the washer (1) and the plate (29). For Item 5, cut off ribs. Wear Safety Glasses Failure to wear safety glasses with side shields could result in serious eye injury or blindness. Never Modify the Equipment Do not modify the equipment unless the manufacturer provides written approval. De-energize, DEPRESSURIZE, Disconnect and Lock Out All Power Sources During Maintenance Failure to De-energize, disconnect and lock out all power supplies before performing equipment maintenance could cause serious injury or death. Know Where and How to Shut Off the Equipment in Case of an Emergency Operator Training All personnel must be trained before operating finishing equipment. Pressure Relief Procedure Always follow the pressure relief procedure in the equipment instruction manual. Equipment Misuse Hazard Equipment misuse can cause the equipment to rupture, malfunction, or start unexpectedly and result in serious injury. Noise Hazard You may be injured by loud noise. Hearing protection may be required when using this equipment. Keep Equipment Guards in Place Do not operate the equipment if the safety devices have been removed. High Pressure Consideration High pressure can cause serious injury. Relieve all pressure before servicing. Spray from the spray gun, hose leaks, or ruptured components can inject fluid into your body and cause extremely serious injury. Projectile Hazard You may be injured by venting liquids or gases that are released under pressure, or flying debris. Static Charge Fluid may develop a static charge that must be dissipated through proper grounding of the equipment, objects to be sprayed and all other electrically conductive objects in the dispensing area. Improper grounding or sparks can cause a hazardous condition and result in fire, explosion or electric shock and other serious injury. Pinch Point Hazard Moving parts can crush and cut. Pinch points are basically any areas where there are moving parts. CA PROP Automatic Equipment Automatic equipment may start suddenly without warning. 65 PROP 65 WARNING WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
