Wesley Kids Korner April 17-21, 2017 This week is our Annual St. Jude’s Trike-A-Thon. The children are going to be riding bikes all week to see how many laps they can accomplish. The times and days the children are riding bikes may vary depending on their classroom. Parents, all sponsorship forms and money will be due no later than Friday, April 28, 2017. If you have any questions please talk to administration. Thank you in advance for your help in supporting this worthy cause. On Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:30am we are having a Mother’s Day Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. The children will be singing Mother’s Day songs to show their appreciation. All of our families from the infant’s to the Martians are invited to join us and celebrate this special day. Please mark your calendars in advance! Hope to see you there! Teacher Appreciation week is going to be held the week of May 1-5, 2017. Teachers give us so much. Extra help when we are having trouble. A welcoming presence when everything seems out of control. In circle we are listening and looking at the books “Bugs” and “The Hungry Caterpillar”. In music we are learning and singing the songs “Five Little Ladybugs” and “Big Bugs Small Bugs”. In art the Little Dippers are making caterpillars using pom poms and ladybugs using their handprints. In art the Big Dippers are making bees and butterflies and painting them using a variety of different sizes of paint brushes. In math we are counting how many spots the ladybugs have and if some have more than others. In science we are playing with our plastic bugs and also playing with play dough to make our own bug. During our outside time we are moving around and singing “Head Shoulders Knees & Toes” as well as playing with plastic bugs in the sandbox. Our vocabulary words in English and Spanish are insects/insectos, butterflies/mariposas, spots/manchas, and stripes/rayas. Angelica, Angela, Lisa, & Lori Explorers Theme of the week: Earth Day This week the children are learning about “Earth Day”, and how they can help the earth by recycling. In science the children are working on mess free earth painting by using a paper bag, paper plate, blue paint, and green paint. In art as a group project the children are making a recycling bin using a box and bottles. The children are also making the earth using coffee filters. Our phrase of the week in English and Spanish is “Help save our planet” or “Ayuda a salvar el planeta”. In music the children are learning and singing the songs “Help Our Earth” and “We Recycle”. During story time we are looking and listening to the books and articles on how to save the earth. Parents, if you have any recyclable items at home such as empty water bottles, magazines, toilet paper or paper towel rolls ect. Please bring them in for our recycling box. Have a blessed week! In math we are working on our gross motor skills by cutting to make jungle vines. We are transforming our block area into a jungle by using our plastic jungle animals and building a jungle with blocks. In music we are learning and singing the songs “Five Little Monkeys” and “Ten In The Bed”. In art the children are making jungle masks using feathers, paper, and paint. The children are also making paper roll jungle plants and paper bag monkey’s. In science the class in making an African grasslands box using grass, different plants, little jungle animal toys, and finding stuff outside to put in it. In literature we are reading and looking at “The Jungle Book” as well as reviewing and decorating the letter “B” for bird. Our vocabulary words for the week in English and Spanish are monkey/change, snake/vibora, spider/arana, and bird/pajaro. Parents, we have planned a fieldtrip to the Zoo. Irma & Cherish Asteroids Theme of the Week: Endangered Animals This week we are continuing to talk about “Endangered Animals”. We are having a bake sale in the morning and afternoon on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. All proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund and a local sanctuary for endangered animals. The children will be very busy making healthy snacks to sell at our bake sale. The children are reading and looking at the books about endangered animals such as the “Tiger” and “Blue Whale”. Our vocabulary words in English and Spanish are donation/donacion, community/comunidad, and recycling/reciclaje. Martians Theme of the Week: Earth Day This week we are focusing on “Earth Day”. We are talking with the children about pollution, recycling, and what we can all do to help keep the earth clean. In science we are exploring all the different environments we have and see on earth. In art the children are making themselves grass crowns and we are working on our Earth Day Pledge. Thursday, and Friday of this week. All money will be donated to help endangered animals. It games the children are learning which items are recyclable and which are not. Have a wonderful week!
