Bagels The Planning Commission recommended approval of a new combined Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagel shop at their March 2 meeting. The new coffee and bagel shop will be located on Kenwood Trail between the Advanced Auto Parts store and the NTB Tire store in the Hoppe Market Place development adjacent to Argonne Village Shopping Center. This new 2,700 square-foot Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagels will include a drivethrough and an outdoor patio is being developed by United Properties. This proposed project is scheduled to be considered by the City Council at the March 20 meeting. Taco Bell at Spirit Place The City Council approved a proposed new Taco Bell restaurant at their March 6 meeting. A new 2,800 squarefoot Taco Bell will be constructed just northeast of the HyVee grocery store and east of the soon-to-open new PetSmart store. This Taco Bell is being developed by Border Foods based in New Hope. It will be a newly designed prototype with a drive-through window and an outdoor patio and seating area. Construction is expected to begin this spring. Christian Heritage Academy A ground-breaking ceremony was recently held for Christian Heritage Academy, a new 29,000 square-foot private elementary and middle school that will be adjoined to Crossroads Church located at 17671 Glacier Way. Upon completion, the new building will house classrooms, offices and a gymnasium with a performance stage. More information can be found at www.chacademy.com. Simply Self Storage A temporary Certificate of Occupancy was issued for Simply Self Storage, which includes over 83,000 square-feet of storage units in the former Train America building located at 9913 214th Street. Additionally, a 2,400 square-foot addition was constructed to create an entrance for Simply Self Storage as well as a drive-through loading space. More information can be found at www.simplyss.com. Visit City Staff at the Landscape and Home/Consumer Expo Saturday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lakeville North High School City staff will be on hand at this annual event to answer questions and provide information on all the services the City provides. Departments that will be represented include Inspections, Planning, Community and Economic Development, Public Works, Environmental Resources, City Forester, Parks and Recreation, Lakeville Area Arts Center, Police and Fire Departments, and more! Minnesota Training Connection The Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce and City of Lakeville recently organized a meeting with industrial park businesses and Dakota County Technical College's (DCTC) Minnesota Training Connection at BTD Manufacturing. Staff from Minnesota Training Connection, a partnership between DCTC and Inver Hills dedicated to providing flexible career training solutions to business and industry, gave an overview of the customized training programs for businesses. Also in attendance were Tim Wynes, DCTC President; Mike Opp, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs; Scott Determan, Dean of Transportation; and Larry Lewis, Interim Dean of the Center for Professional and Workforce Development. More information is available at www.minnesotatraining.com. Building Permit Report The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $32,798,368 through February. This compares to a total valuation of $16,092,804 for building permits issued through February of 2016. The City issued commercial and industrial permits with a total valuation of $1,016,500 through February compared to a total valuation of $1,706,000 during the same period in 2016. The City also issued a building permit for the new Christian Heritage Academy School adjacent to Crossroads Church in February that was valued at $3,000,000. The City has issued permits for 61 single-family homes through February with a total valuation of $18,503,000. This compares to 34 single-family home permits through February of 2016 with a total valuation of $10,493,000. The City also issued permits for three townhome units through February with a total valuation of $768,000. This compares to seven townhome permits issued through February of 2016 with a total valuation of $1,709,000. Through February, the City has issued the highest number of residential permits in the metro area according to the Builders Association of Twin Cities.
