NotVED O R P AP A residential outdoor curbside recycling container is defined as: • a curbside blue box provided by the City for use as a recycling container or an exact version sold in retail stores that is in good working order, which weighs no more than 18 kilograms (40 pounds) when filled; • a curbside “Big Blue” sold by the City for use as a recycling container that is in good working order, which weighs no more than 18 kilograms (40 pounds) when filled; • a rigid blue box blue container with the recycling mobius loop: - that is in good working order; - with a maximum capacity of 133 litres (35 gallons); - which weighs no more than 18 kilograms (40 pounds) when filled; - with an external height no greater than 95 centimetres (3.1 feet); - with an internal width or diameter no greater than 60 centimetres (2 feet); - with a lid which may be easily and completely removed to facilitate collection and has any device used to tie down the lid completely removed prior to collection; and - with handles which are set above the midpoint on both sides of the recycling container; • open corrugated boxes or boxes similar in size to a City blue box will be an approved recycling container during periodic overflow. These boxes must be placed out beside an approved blue recycling container. 13 • All blue box recyclable items should be placed loosely in an approved recycling container. • A few exceptions for bagging items are as follows: - you can place all your recyclable plastic bags in a plastic grocery/shopping bag. Tie this bag and place it in your approved recycling container. - you can use a clear plastic bag for large quanities of shredded recyclable papers or a clear plastic bag for large quantities of recyclable rigid polystyrene (Styrofoam) foam provided that the clear bag is: » not torn, punctured or ripped, and in good working order; » is no more that 125 centimetres and no less than 80 centimetres in height; » is no more that 90 centimetres and no less than 65 centimetres in width; » weighs no more that 18 kg/40 lbs. when filled; » is closed and securely tied; and » is placed out beside an approved blue recycling container.
