Whose Portrait Is On

What Should You Do
With Your Money?
Tip #1 – Save It: Remember to save some of your
allowance each week. You can deposit some of
it in your Savings Account at the credit union
and watch it grow!

savings
goal?
For instance, if you attend a church, temple,
mosque, or other place of worship with your
parents, you may have been asked to volunteer
at a dinner or other special event. The money
from the tickets sold for the event may be
given to a good cause instead. This is why
volunteering is so important: your time helps
raise money for others who really need it.
It’s always nice to volunteer your time when
you can. Other people will appreciate your hard
work. Ask your parents about any chances to
volunteer that may be available in your area.
Tip #2 – Share It: You can also donate some of
your money to a good cause. For instance,
one little girl who had cancer started her own
lemonade stand to earn money for children’s
cancer treatments. (To learn more about this
cause, visit www.alexslemonade.org.)

3 Easy Do-It-Yourself Holiday Gift Ideas Kids Can Make
(with the help of a grown up!)
Gifts from the heart – made by hand – can be just as nice as store bought because they come from you and your imagination.
1. Book Marker – Turn paper or
cardboard into a work of art
with supplies you may already
have. Anything will do – glitter,
markers, paint, pieces of scrap
fabric, or even a small picture
of yourself. A good size to
make is 1-1/2” x 6”.
Have someone
help with the
scissors and be
sure to have
glue or tape
handy. Now
express yourself!
2. Recipe Cards –
Does someone in
your family bake
great brownies or
serve steamy bowls of
homemade soup that
really hits the spot?
Why not put a bunch of your
family’s recipes together and give
them as gifts? Not only will it
be appreciated, but you’ll get to
spend time with relatives while
they share their recipes with you.
Just write each recipe on a
3” x 5” Index Card
and tie the
packet with
ribbon or yarn.
Watch for
smiles as they
read each one.
3. Tree Ornaments
– Making ornaments
is easy and fun. You’ll
need cookie cutters,
ornament hooks, 2 cups
flour, one cup salt, 1-1/2
cups of
water, and
a rolling pin! Mix flour,
water and salt until smooth –
like dough. Roll out to a 14
inch square and cut out shapes.
Press an ornament hook into the
top of the shape. Bake at 350
degrees for 45 min to an hour.
Paint and seal with spray gloss
(with a grown-up’s help!). They
last for years and will be a great
memory for a loved one.
Don’t forget the wrapping paper!
Make your own wrapping paper out of
Sunday comics or rolls of white paper
you decorate. Remember, recycling
starts with you!
