Ashfold School is a co-educational Preparatory School for 7 - 13 year olds with a PrePrep Department for 3 - 6 year olds.

Head of French
The Post:
The School requires from January 2015, a fluent French speaker, one day a week
(Thursdays) to conduct French conversation sessions with small groups of prep school children (8 – 13 year
olds) to help prepare them for oral Common Entrance and Scholarship French assessments. The Head of
French who will provide guidance and the necessary teaching resources.
French at Ashfold
Children are introduced to French in Forms I and II (Years 3 & 4) with two lessons a week and a 40 minute prep
every two weeks. This increases to three lessons a week for children in Forms III (Year 5) and four lessons a
week for Forms IV - VI (Years 6 - 8). From Year 7 French is set. The Head of French teaches all children in the
Forms III-VI; Forms I & II are taught by the Junior Department French ‘Subject Representative’.

Qualifications and Training
Fluency in conversational French
Essential
Desirable

Native French speaker

Qualified Teacher (B Ed, PGCE, QTS)

Competence in Spanish or German (so we could offer a basic introduction to
these languages post-exams to our eldest children)

Experience
Previous experience of teaching or assisting with teaching in schools

An understanding of, and commitment to, the prep school ethos

Teaching Skills
Ability to set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

Ability to promote good progress and outcomes by pupils

Ability to adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils

Ability to make accurate and productive use of assessment


Terms and Conditions:
Hours:
8.40 am - 3.30 pm Thursdays (Term-time only)
Salary:
£170 per day
Pension:
The School will contribute 14.1% of salary into the Teacher's Superannuation Scheme
