We Love Our Parents!
Our Annual Parent Visitation Day was held on Friday, April 22. We were so happy to welcome
over 70 Moms and Dads. The day included lunch, a “Fun and Fit,” activity, a classroom
Earth Day lesson and our annual Earth Day musical celebration with
Lovey Williams, one man band.

FUN & FIT
One of our Parent Visitation Day activities was FUN & FIT. It utilized
some of the videos from the GoNoodle website.
Our teachers and therapists use the GoNoodle website to access
movement activities that are quick, easy to follow and that the students truly enjoy. The research
based exercise breaks provide the students opportunities to “get the wiggles out,” refocus their
attention and stimulate brain function.
We also recommend that you try GoNoodle at home as a family. Go to Gooodle.com and open up a
free account on your computer (you will see Midland School is already listed in the schools). You
can pick your brain break by exploring channels or categories. Then you pick from a selection in
that channel or category. We suggest starting with channels and then pick one you think may be
helpful.
Thanks Room 209
The students in room 209 used their math skills, learned more about water life in
science and shared an earth day project with the entire school!
So how many goldfish are in a 30 ounce carton of rainbow goldfish crackers? Each
student helped to find out by counting sets. When they were finished they discovered
that there were 1,480 fish. The students recycled a plastic container that previously
held computer screen wipes to be a fish bowl. The container circulated to each class in the school
so they could have a chance to submit their guess as to the number of goldfish in the bowl. Some
classes guessed the number by weighing the fish, while others tried calculating the number of fish
per square inch. The winning class was room 502. Their guess of 1502 was only 22 more than the
actual number. What was the key to their mathematical success? They used their room number
and put a 1 in front of it!!!! Ha ha ha...way to go Room 502! Enjoy your goldfish and remember to
recycle the bowl.

App of the Month
US Geography with Flat Stanley by Flatter World, Inc.
Have you ever heard of “Flat Stanley?” Has your child ever had a project in
school that involved “Flat Stanley?” Flat Stanley has had many adventures and
now his adventures are taking him throughout the United States. Travel and
learn with Flat Stanley as he teaches you about the various states, their
locations, landmarks, flags, state birds, and many more features which provide photos of the
region. This App is perfect for kids ages 4-12. This App is compatible with the iPhone, iPad,
and iPod touch and is also available for the Android. It costs $1.99. Our teachers are using
this App as part of their instruction for the Social Studies unit- Maps and Globes. The
students love watching Stanley fly across the US! It is a great way to make learning about the
states fun and engaging.
May Nutrition Theme – Drinks of Champions
We are reminded to drink lots of water in May as we focus on
“Drinks of Champions.”
When it comes to daily drinks, it is best for children (and the whole family!) to stick to milk,
a little juice and plenty of water. Soda is not recommended, but for a soda-like treat, try a
“Fizzy Fruit” drink:
Ingredients:
4 ounces sparkling water
4 ounces100% all-natural fruit juice, no sugar added
ice
Directions:
Pour sparkling water and juice into a glass over ice.
You can drop in slices or chunks of fruit, if you like. It
looks and tastes great and adds extra nutrition.
Cheers!
