UNO Intramural Red Bull 5 Spot Soccer
ELIGIBILTY
1. Any UNO student, part-time or full-time faculty/staff member, Wellness Center member or theirs
spouses are eligible to participate provided they have a current Wellness Center activity card.
2. ALL PLAYERS MUST SHOW A CURRENT UNO I.D. OR CURRENT FACULTY, STAFF,
ALUMNI, METRO, AND CSM I.D. CARD BEFORE EACH GAME. "NO I.D., NO PLAY"

3. Intercollegiate athletic team members are ineligible to compete in the same or related sport.
4. Members of sport clubs are allowed to participate in the respective intramural sport, however, a
maximum of two sport club members is allowed on any one intramural team. You are considered
a sport club member for 1-year after your sport club membership ends.
SPORTSMANSHIP
1. All teams are required to maintain a 3.50 sportsmanship to be eligible for playoffs. Any team who
receives two “3” ratings in the playoffs will be eliminated, regardless of whether they won or not.
Any team who receives a “2” or lower rating in the playoffs will be eliminated regardless of
whether they won or not.
FIELD
1. The field of play will be a rectangle approximately 40 feet by 30 feet.
2. The field will be marked out with cones.
3. There is no penalty area.
TIME
1. Games consist of one ten (10) minute period.
2. Teams are not allotted any time-outs. The supervisor may, however suspend time for injury, etc. if
he/she deems it necessary.
3. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME. Teams should report to the Intramural Supervisor a minimum of
15 minutes prior to the scheduled game time to complete the score card.
PLAYERS
1. This tournament will have no gender restrictions (Open Format).
2. Teams will have a total of seven (7) players: five (5) on the field at any time, with two (2) subs.

All players must wear soft-bottomed (or rubber-molded) shoes. Screw-in cleats are prohibited.
No jewelry is allowed (watches, earrings, necklaces, etc.)
No hard bill hats, bandannas, or other similar headgear is allowed. (knots)
The supervisor shall not allow a player to wear anything which he/she deems dangerous.
Regulation soccer balls will be provided by the office of Campus Recreation, however each team
may provide their own ball.
SUBSTITUTES
1. Substitutes must report to and be recognized by the supervisor before entering the game.

2. Unlimited substitutions may be made during any dead ball situation.
GOALKEEPER
1. There will be no traditional goalie in 5 spot soccer.
2. This player will be a “sweeper keeper” or essentially just another defender.
SCORING
1. A goal is scored when the whole of the ball has passed over the goal-line, between the goal posts
and under the cross-bar, provided it has not been thrown, carried or intentionally propelled by
hand or arm by a player or the attacking team.
2. A goal may be scored during a play directly from a:
a. Direct free kick
b. Corner kick
c. Drop ball
3. A goal may not be scored during play directly from a:
a. Kicker on a kickoff
b. Indirect free kick
c. Goal kick
d. Throw-in
e. Free kick into a team's own goal
4. A game ending in a tie will be decided by sudden death penalty kicks. Each team will alternate
kicks (decided off of a coin toss to start).
a. Goalkeepers will be permitted to defend the goal.
b. Kicks will be taken from 8 yards away and centered on the goal.
i. This distance will be walked off by the supervisor.
c. Goalkeepers may shoot penalty kicks.
BEGINNING OF PLAY
1. A coin toss shall occur before the game. The team winning the toss shall have the option to
choose the kick-off or defend the goal. The team losing the toss shall pick the remaining option.
2. The game shall be started by a player taking a place-kick (i.e., a kick at the ball while it is
stationary on the ground in the center of the field of play) into his opponents half of the field of
play. The ball must travel on revolution forward before it can be played by another player.
3. Every player shall be on their own half of the field and every player of the team opposing that of
the kicker shall remain minimum 10 feet from the ball until it is kicked off.
4. The initial kicker shall not play the ball a second time until it has been touched or played by
another player.
5. After a goal is scored, the game shall be started in the same manner by a player of the team
surrendering the goal.
6. When restarting after halftime, ends shall be changed and the kick-off shall be taken by a player
of the team that did not receive the kick-off to start the game.
7. When restarting the game after a temporary suspension of play from any cause not mentioned
elsewhere: the team with possession of the ball at the time the suspension of play was called
shall be awarded an indirect kick at the point of possession, provided that immediately prior to the
suspension the ball had not passed over the touch or goal lines.
8. If neither team had possession of the ball, the referee shall perform a drop ball at the location of
the ball when the suspension was called.
9. When any kick is used to begin play, opposing players must stand at least 10 feet from the ball.
10. When the ball completely passes the out-of-bounds line behind the goal the ball will be put in play
by a goal kick.

11. When the ball completely crosses the side line then the ball will restart with a throw-in. Players
that are throwing in the ball must have both feet on or behind the line, both hands on opposite
sides of the balls, they must have it go behind their head, and the ball must travel directly over the
player’s head.
a. If a player fails to comply with the rules then the throw-in can be given to the other team.
12. During a goal kick the ball is not regarded as in play until it leaves the penalty area.
PENALTIES
1. ALL PLAYERS WILL BE SPOKEN TO PRIOR TO THE TOURNAMENT BY THE ASSISTANT
DIRECTOR AND/OR THE GRADUATE ASSISTANT.
2. CAPTAINS AND PLAYERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CALLING THEIR OWN FOULS/OUT
OF BOUNDS.
a. Fouls must be called by the team who was fouled, by the player that was fouled,
immediately after the action.
b. Out of bounds must be called at the spot. Balls on the boundary marked by cones will be
considered in play until they are obviously out of bounds.
3. A SUPERVISOR WILL BE ON SITE TO SIGN IN PLAYERS AND MONITOR THE GAMES.
SUPERVISORS HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO REMOVE A PLAYER FROM THE GAME DUE TO
REPEATED FOULS/UNSAFE PLAY/UNSPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIOR.
4. RESINTATEMENT BECAUSE OF REMOVAL WILL BE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AND/OR GRADUATE ASSISTANT ON SITE FOR THE
TOURNAMENT.
5. All fouls will result in a direct kick.
6. Penalties - A direct free kick shall be awarded to the offended team from the spot closest to the
infraction for the following offenses:
a. Kicking or attempting a kick an opponent.
b. Tripping an opponent.
c. Jumping at an opponent.
d. Charging an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner.
e. Charging an opponent from behind.
f. Slide tackling.
g. Striking, attempting to strike, or spitting at an opponent.
h. Holding an opponent.
i. Pushing an opponent.
j. Handling the ball.
k. A hand ball by the defense in the penalty box will result in a penalty kick for the offense.
l. Playing in manner considered dangerous by the referee, i.e. "dangerous play." (high
kicks, playing the ball while prone on the ground near opposing players).
m. When not playing the ball, intentionally obstructing an opponent, i.e. "obstruction."
n. Indulging in tactics, which, in the opinion of the referee, are designed merely to hold up
the game and thus waste time and so give an unfair advantage to a player's own team.
o. As the kicker in a kick-off, free kick, corner kick, or goal kick, playing the ball again before
it has been touched or played by another player.
p. Intentionally obstructing the opposing goalkeeper in an attempt to prevent him/her from
putting the ball into play.
q. Any infringement by the attacking team during a penalty kick.
r. If during a throw-in, the thrower plays the ball a second time before it has been touched
or played by another player.
7. Offsides
a. Offsides will NOT be enforced for this tournament.
8. Yellow Card Infractions (Guidelines)

a. Leaving or entering the field of play without first getting the signal from the referee.
b. Persistently infringing the rules of the game.
c. Showing by word or action dissent from any decision given by the referee.
d. Being guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct.
e. During a free kick, dancing or making gestures in a way to distract an opponent.
f. Conduct deemed by the referee as being unsportsmanlike.
g. Not properly checking in before beginning to participate.
9. Red Card Infractions (Ejection guidelines)
a. Being guilty of violent or serious foul play.
b. Using foul or abusive language.
c. Being guilty of misconduct after having a caution.
d. Conduct which warrants ejection in the judgment of the supervisor or both captains.
e. Any actions of foul and abusive language, including slurs of any type are an automatic
ejection.
10. Sportsmanship and Roster Numbers
a. Teams that have two incidences of players removed from games by supervisors will
forfeit out of the tournament, regardless of time or score.
b. Players/teams involved in any physical altercation will be suspended/forfeited out at the
discretion of the supervisor on site, the Assistant Director and/or the Graduate Assistant.
11. Advantage Clause
a. There will be no advantage given. Fouls must be called by the team who was fouled, by
the player that was fouled, immediately after the action.
