Background
The UK Health Research Analysis published on the 24th May 2006 is an analysis of the UK
research portfolios of the 11 largest government and charity funders of health related
research. The analysis focuses exclusively on directly funded peer reviewed research
awards. It provides an overview of research taking place in the UK during the 2004/2005
financial year and is based on a total of 9638 peer reviewed awards, representing a total
spend of £950m on this type of research during this period.

Data Presented
The figures presented in this document represent the results of an analysis restricted to
those awards submitted by the Chief Scientist Office, Scottish Executive Health
Department (SEHD). The sub-analysis includes 311 awards and represents 1.4% of the total
funds in the main analysis.
