World Social Justice Day
The UN General Assembly declared this day as World Social
Justice Day in 2007, inviting Member States to devote the day
to promoting national activities in agreement with the
objectives of the World Summit for Social Development and the
twenty-fourth session of the General Assembly. Globally,
injustice exists more frequently in other forms, such as
poverty, hunger, worker’s abuse, and severe restrictions on
women’s rights. Observance of World Day of Social Justice
should support efforts of the international community in
poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and
decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and
justice for all.
In the Third Committee, 67th UN General Assembly on October
16, 2012, Shri Ananth Kumar reaffirmed that India will provide
full support to the efforts of the United Nations, in
particular UN Women, which has recorded significant
achievements in only two years since its establishment and
assist the General Assembly in all their efforts to ensure
Social Justice.
As a measure to facilitate Social justice India has enacted a
comprehensive Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act
which recognizes that violence can take
various forms,
including physical, economic, social and psychological. This
Act provides a legal tool for women to fight violence within
the family – both marital and familial abuse. The law seeks to
provide support to women victim of domestic violence in form
of shelter, medical help, compensation, maintenance orders,
and temporary custody of children.
Some of the most devoted workers for social justice in the
history of India have included MG Ranade, Swami Vivekananda,
Veer Savarkar, Kulapati Munshi, Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb
Ambedkar, Tarabai Shinde, Behramji Malabari among others. The
resolute force and courage of these reformers along with the
ardent support from the people enabled them to take robust
actions against injustice.
Under Indian Constitution, the use of social justice is
accepted in wider sense, which includes social and economical
justice both. As former Chief Justice P. B.Gajendragadkar (who
originally hailed from Karnataka) puts it:
“In this sense social justice holds the aims of equal
opportunity to every citizen in the matter of social &
economical activities and to prevent inequalities”.
With the quote of Babasaheb that ‘..justice is another name of
liberty, equality and fraternity….’ let us all observe World
Social Justice Day.

Narendra Modi’s call of Vote For India resounds in Karnataka
“I had come here a few days back. That day there weren’t so
many people. Today the whole field is full and there is no
place to stand. While coming from the airport, I could see a
human wall welcoming me…..’ This statement conveyed the sheer
awe of the future Prime Minister of the nation Shri Narendra
Modi as he looked at the swarm of people who had thronged in
just to witness him speak. Shri Modiji thanked the people of
Mangalore for sitting in the open for a long time in the
afternoon and assured them that he will fulfill their wishes
and needs.
This mammoth crowd was part of the BJP’s ‘Bharatha Gellisi’
rally in Karnataka. Looking at the crowd it could be sensed
that the political environment like the day’s weather was
getting heated up and the ‘Wind of Change’ was inevitable. And
why wouldn’t it be so when, for the past five years the
meaning of democracy became limited to grabbing power through
elections, thanks in large part to the activities of the
Central Government. Should this obscene limitation of
democracy go unpunished?
As the nation is getting crushed by a mountain of scams
coupled with slow economic growth and misrule Shri Modi
appears to hold it just like Atlas held the globe in the Greek
myths. With the MP of Bangalore South Shri Ananth Kumar and
provincial heavyweights like Sadanand Gowda and Jagdish
Shettar on his side Shri Modi energized the listeners asking
the people for their support and love as the BJP strives to
achieve a ‘Congress’ mukt BHARAT. On listening to the speech
as well as keeping in mind Shri Modi’s achievements in Gujarat
combined with NDA’s previous rule one would be tempted to
rewrite this nursery rhyme:
The
scams of UPA pushed the nation’s progress over the wall.
Their economic policies caused the rupee to have a great fall.
Hopefully this year people will end their reign.
And bring Modi-led NDA to make India shine again.
Here’s a gist of the speech:
Starting on a lighter note Shri Modi said : “The black pepper
from the region is being used in the Parliament by Congress.”
Then channeling the frustration of the people Shri Modi
stated:
‘For how long will the Congress continue to mislead the
people by using pepper in their eyes? The public knows what’s
happening. There is no democracy in the Congress. It is not in
them to make use of democracy.Congress is misleading the
country through its slogans. There is unemployment in the
country, farmers are still committing suicide. In 60 years,
the country has never witnessed such a time what we are
witnessing now. For the first time there is a government that
is engulfed the country in corruption.’
Modi ji , praised the fact that the Mangalore region had
given many banks to the country and reiterated the need for a
special policy to develop the coastal states and districts
keeping in mind the needs of its people. He spoke of
replicating his successful attempt in Gujarat of giving power
to the fishing community through providing satellite
technology in the Mangalore district. He spoke of the need to
accept urbanization as well as the need to change the face of
infrastructure.
Expanding his vision to the IT domain in Karnataka, Modi ji
said:
‘We used to be a nation of snake charmers now we are a nation
of mouse charmers. However the IT sector has become stagnant.
There is nothing today in world without technology. We must
work in the direction where we can make use of this
technology…..We don’t export talent, we export labor. Unless
we don’t export both talent and labor, we will be stuck in low
end outsource..’
At the end of his speech Shri Modi asked the audience to not
think of supporting NDA as supporting a coalition but to vote
for a prosperous and powerful India.
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki
Jai!
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Jai!
When there was Mughal Shahi in Delhi, Qutab Shahi in
Hyderabad, Barid Shahi in Bidar, Adil Shahi in Bijapur,
British, French, Dutch & Portuguese; Chatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj carved out a Hindu Rashtra by his sword and blood….!
In what far-off country, upon what obscure I know not now,
Seated in the gloom of some Mahratta mountain-wood O King
Shivaji,
Lighting thy brow, like a lightning flash, this thought
descended,
“Into one virtuous rule, this divided broken distracted India,
I shall bind.”
With these lines of Nobel Laureate Shri Rabindranath Tagore
let us rejoice this day as Shivaji Jayanti when the great
leader and warrior Shivaji took birth. Even though Maharashtra
is extremely lucky to be his home state the reality is he does
not belong to Maharashtra alone; he belongs to every Indian.
Unlike what some scholars have opined Shivaji was not just an
ambitious ruler looking to establish a kingdom for Marathas
but a patriot inspired by a vision of Hindavi Swarajya, or
self rule by Hindustanis, as he left behind a strong
contribution in the fields of good governance and human
management.
He was the first Indian ruler in the medieval age to perceive
the necessity of building up a navy and constructed dockyards
and ships for purpose of trade as well as for protection. He
decreed that the finances of the state were to be so managed
and budgeted as to leave surplus every year to fall back upon
in times of national need.
Shivaji can be rightly called the founder of the modern
secular state of India as he ensured that in his domain Muslim
shrines and people were well protected and treated equally.
Kafi Khan, the Mughal court historian, admitted thaShivaji
treated the Quran Sharif with respect and never touched
mosques.
At this time of despondency the nation needs a Shivaji to wipe
out the misery prevailing in the minds of the younger
generation and make the nation valorous and great. With that
in mind “Jai Bhawani,Jai Shivaji”.
Janmadina Shubhecchāh Guruji
Janmadina Shubhecchāh Guruji
“Shri Golwalkar, an eminent personality who was not a member
of the House, is no more. He held a respected position in
national life by his force of personality and the intensity of
his conviction, even though many of us could not agree with
him”. This statement came from none other than former Prime
Minister of the nation Smt. Indira Gandhi as the Lok Sabha
mourned Guruji’s passing. It is interesting that nowadays her
political scion is falsely quoting Guru Golwalkar to malign
nationalist forces as communal.
It is believed that every idea and the one who conceives it
have to go through scrutiny, skepticism, rebuff and derision
before gaining acceptability. But unfortunately even as we
rejoice the 108th Birth Anniversary of the intensely patriotic
and dedicated son of Mother India, Guruji still finds it
difficult to gain acceptability such is the strength of false
propaganda by the disingenuous lot. But like the
aforementioned cycle one can hope the day will dawn over the
false propagandists on the allegations against Guruji. He was
the longest reigning head (sarsanghchalak) of the Rashtrya
Swayamsevak Sangh, in fact it can be said he was the navigator
of the Sangh guiding and protecting the ship as it sailed over
the waves, but to the Swayamsevaks he was like a father who
looked after his children and did not abandon them in times of
peril. Like all the saints who traversed this land Guruji held
the principles of affection, humility and self-sacrifice close
to his heart.
Guruji was born in the Raikar house in Nagpur on this day in
1906 to Sadashivrao, a school teacher and Lakshmibai. He was
named Madhav, but everybody in the family called him Madhu, a
endearing name of his childhood. Out of a total of nine
children, only Madhu survived and naturally became the darling
of his parents’ love and hopes. Those days, Nagpur was a
province of modern Madhya Pradesh. Sadashivrao was
continuously posted in Hindi speaking areas. Although, his
mother tongue was Marathi, since Hindi was the general spoken
language, Madhu had a firm grip on Hindi as well. And as his
school was managed by the Christian missionaries, he developed
mastery in English, too.
In 1924, having completed his studies up to Intermediate,
Madhavrao joined the famous Banaras Hindu University or his
Master’s Degree in Science, during which period, he came under
the benign and inspiring influence of Pt.Madan Mohan Malaviya,
the esteemed
nationalist leader and the founder of the
University. The huge repository of invaluable books in the
library there was as if waiting to quench his thirst for
knowledge. One day, his toe was bitten by a scorpion, but he
very casually cut that portion of his foot, dipped that foot
in potassium permanganate solution and resumed his study.
Amazed at this, one of his friends asked, “How do you manage
to study despite such severe pain?” Madhavrao replied, “Well,
the scorpion has bitten my foot, not my head!” Later on also,
people have many a time witnessed his tranquil tolerance under
most excruciating physical pains.
After completing his post-graduation in 1928, he went to
Chennai to pursue Ph.D. in Marine Life but in 1929, his father
retired from service and this made it difficult to fund
Madhavrao’s studies and ultimately, he left research work and
returned to Nagpur.. Later, he served his Alma Mater as a
professor for a couple of years and it was then that he earned
from his students the affectionate sobriquet of ‘Guruji’, a
reverential attribute which stuck to him permanently in the
years that followed. His unfathomable love for his students
drove him to help them at studies in every possible way; often
he would purchase the necessary text-books for needy students
or financially assist them to pay their examination fees. He
would be happy spending a large sum of his salary to this end.
He would delve deep into other subjects also, so that he could
help students in those subjects. After his teaching tenure
ended, he returned to Nagpur and by 1935, he also obtained a
LL.B. Degree.
In Nagpur, Madhavrao came into contact with the Ramakrishna
Mission. Having been overpowered by a strong inner urge for
spiritual pursuit, he left for the ‘Saragachi’ Ashram in
Murshidabad district of Bengal seeking to renounce the world
and become a Sanyasi (Monk). He became a disciple of Swami
Akhandananda, a direct disciple of Shri Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa and gurubandhu of Swami Vivekananda, at the
Saragachi ashram. On 13 January 1937, he was initiated into
the order but his Guru refused to permit him to become a
Sanyasi and directed him to continue his social service. He
returned to Nagpur after the passing away of his Guru in 1937.
Inspired by the ideology and methodology of the already
established and active RSS, Madhavrao joined the RSS and
eventually, following a meeting with Dr.Hedgewar, went to the
RSS’ “Officers Training Camp” in Nagpur. Dr. Hedgewar saw
Madhavrao as a potential successor as he rose rapidly in the
organization and was appointed as the Sarkaryavah (General
Secretary) of the Sangh in 1939.The good doctor died of
multiple complications on 21 June 1940, and Guruji succeeded
him as Sarsanghachalak as per the wishes of Dr. Hedgewar, that
he had expressed in a letter.
As Sarsanghachalak, he began a series of countrywide tours for
interacting with the Sangh workers and propagating the RSS
ideology. Under his leadership, Sangh activities grew apace
and Sangh Shakhas sprouted even in the remote corners of the
country. He was the force behind the formation of the numerous
networks of socio-cultural organizations in the entire
country: Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh , Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi
Parishad, , Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram among many.
Following the nation’s independence linguistic division of the
states was the point of serious discussions. Shri Guruji
warned against the inherent danger there in: “This may in
future lead to fanatic instances in the name of languages.
This may well become an issue of friction and ill-will amongst
neighboring states.” He wrote an impressive article on this
issue in which he appealed to the leaders of the country to
‘have guts and accept a unitary state for the entire nation.’
The linguistic division of states also gave birth to a
controversy in Punjab in the name of Punjabi Suba. The Arya
Samaj had called upon the Punjabi speaking Hindus, other than
Sikhs, that they also should get Hindi to be recorded as their
mother tongue. But Shri Guruji clearly stated, “Punjabi, Hindi
are all our national languages. Hence, the Punjabi speaking
Hindus, other than Sikhs, should honestly record Punjabi as
their mother tongue.”
In 1956, on the occasion of Vijayadashami, lakhs of people
from the Mahars belonging to schedule castes adopted Buddhism
under the leadership of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Shri Guruji’s
reaction to this was noteworthy: “Dr. Ambedkar has made an
extraordinary effort to uplift a huge section of the ignorant
and oppressive Hindu society. By this he has tried to restore
self-honor to those who had been humiliated for long. Thereby
he has done a great service to the nation.”
It was also under Guruji that today’s illustrious leaders of
the BJP Shri LK Advani , Shri Vajpayee and Shri Modi received
their political lessons. With this legacy and activities one
can only bow their heads in respect that such a visionary took
birth.

Narendra Modi’s call of Vote
For
India
resounds
in
Karnataka
‘A few months ago, I had come here to this Maidan only.
That day the Maidan was barely full but today there is
no place here. From the airport till here, I could see
only people. It was like a human wall. Mangalore has won
me over.’
‘We need such policies that our farmers will not botherwhat will happen to Adike. Need of the hour is to
increase purchasing power of our villages. And we need
to focus our policies around that.
‘The black pepper from the region is being used in the
Parliament by Congress. Congress has destroyed the
country. When someone questions the Congress, they get
arrested. They misuse institutions. For how long will
the Congress continue to mislead the people by using
pepper in their eyes. The public knows what’s happening.
There is no democracy in the Congress. It is not in them
to make use of democracy….. Congress had promised in
2009 Parliament to give employment to one member in each
family. ..The Congress did not fulfill that promise,
they were blinded with arrogance. Where will our youth
go if they do not have jobs.. In 60 years, the country
has never witnessed such a time what we are witnessing
now. For the first time there is a government that is
engulfed the country in corruption…efforts are being
made to target Karnataka BJP leaders as well as myself
but we are no cowards…’
‘The Government is in deep corruption. Allegations are
coming from everywhere. The Supreme Court is also
rebuking them but they are not bothered…Congress is the
root cause of corruption. We need freedom from Congress
to be free from corruption.
“Coastal states and districts need a special policy for
their development. Just one tailor made solution will
not help in the country’s progress. Keeping in mind
their needs, a separate vision is needed for these
regions. Port development is not going to work; port
lead development is what we need. Why cannot we make
state-of-the-art fish harbours? The fishing community
needs to be empowered by technology. If satellite
technology is used it will save their time. I have
implemented the same in Gujarat with success,”
‘It is the time that we accept urbanization as
opportunity. The Centre rejected urbanization, but we
must accept urbanization. We need to change the face of
infrastructure. Just roads, airports are not sufficient.
The quality of lighting used in these places is
necessary; a network to transmit electricity from
surplus states needs to be established.’
‘We used to be a nation of snake charmers now we are a
nation of mouse charmers. However the IT sector has
become stagnant…. There is nothing today in world
without technology. We must work in the direction where
we can make use of this technology…We don’t export
talent, we export labor. Unless we don’t export both
talent and labor, we will be stuck in low end outsource’
“I am asking for your vote for development. We need to
fight the elections for India, not for an individual not
for a party.’
