Dear Incoming Seventh Grade Students and Families, June 12, 2015 With summer under way I am sure that many of you are making plans for vacation and looking forward to relaxing and having fun. As you pack your summer with friends and fun, please don’t forget to make time to READ!! The summer reading for incoming seventh graders will consist of reading 3 books of your. It is highly recommended (but not required) that you select books from the Reading Olympics List for 20152016. Please choose books that you have not read before. Most libraries and bookstores should have the books on this list in stock. Please do NOT read the following books which we will be reading in class next year: The Giver and The Outsiders. Please complete the enclosed story maps over the summer. Complete one story map for each book. These story maps will be useful to refresh the student’s memories of plot, characters, etc., especially if the books are read early in the summer. Students, please bring the completed story maps with you on the first day of school. I am attaching a copy of the Reading Olympics Book List for 20152016, as well as 3 copies of the story map. If you are planning to join the Reading Olympics Team next year, which I hope you are, then feel free to read as many books on the list as you like. It would be wise to complete a story map for each book you read so that you will be ready for the competition next spring! Simply make a few extra copies for yourself. Fee free to contact me via email at [email protected] . Enjoy your summer! I look forward to seeing you…..in SEPTEMBER!!
