Video Magnifier

Video Magnifier
View Small Components
·
Have you ever encountered a customer application, which can be measured
using a Form TalySurf or TalyRond, but the component’s small size makes the
set-up and measurement process almost impossible?
Improve User’s Working Conditions
·
Have you come across end users who are continually measuring small or finely
detailed components, putting excessive strain on their eyesight?
Identify Key Component Features
·
Do your customers sometimes need to locate specific regions (eg scratches,
small surface features) prior to making a measurement, but find this difficult with
the naked eye?
These and related customer needs can now be addressed with an all-new
accessory for both new and existing Taylor Hobson PC-based system users – the
Video Magnifier, as illustrated below:

Sales Approach
Video Magnifier – A high specification colour vision system, allowing component
images to be displayed at up to 75X magnification on the instrument PC monitor.
The Video Magnifier can be sold as an accessory for both new and existing PC-based
systems (eg FTSS, TalyRond, TalyScan 150). For new system sales, it is intended that
the Video Magnifier will allow TH to penetrate markets in which our success had
previously been limited, owing to the small size of the component or feature to be
measured. For existing users, the Video Magnifier offers the opportunity to increase the
usability and applications coverage of their instrument.
The following product features and related benefits will assist in putting the sales
message across to the customer. The same points can be used as the basis of a
payback justification if required.

1
Allows smaller components to be
measured.
2
Improves usability of system over
extended periods.
3
4
Assists in the identification of key
component features or areas of
interest.
Reduced Set-up time.
5
Simple to install, set up and adjust.

Increases value of system to
customer – control more processes
& part numbers.
Reduces operator eye strain and
tiredness – higher productivity,
fewer errors
As for #1. Increases power of
instruments as research / forensic
tools.
Improved throughput, permits
higher sampling rates.
Does not require special skills or
training. No impact on routine
measurement time.
System can be quickly reset to
display all or a small part of a
component without the need to
refocus. Permits rapid job
changeover.
Additional analysis & reporting tool
– can be combined with mltra
analysis outputs for reporting.

The Video Magnifier consists of the following elements:
·
·
·
A high quality Colour Digital Camera (offering up to 75X magnification)
Fully Adjustable Camera Stand (Magnetic Mount - compatible with Standard Base)
Video Link Firmware to display the component image on the system PC Monitor.
No independent light source is offered with the system – this is not required in a well-lit
measurement environment. For poorly lit environments or unusually demanding
applications, a Cold Light Source is available as an additional accessory – this has the
benefit of having no thermal effect on component during measurement. For less critical
measurement applications which demand an extra light source, a conventional
adjustable lamp is also available - see Page 7 for all part number information.
Of great benefit to the user are the Camera Parfocal Optics, allowing the lens zoom to
be adjusted from 10X to 75X magnification without the need to reset the focus. This
allows the right image to be displayed on screen quickly and easily.
The Video Link Firmware & Software are installed on the System PC, and can be
multitasked with mltra within Windows NT®. The minimum recommended PC
specification is as follows:
·
·
500 MHz Processor
128Mb RAM
DELL PC’s supplied by Taylor Hobson have run at this specification level for
approximately the last 12 months. It is not possible to upgrade sub-500MHz machines
to a higher level processor – existing customers equipped with such PCs will require a
second computer to support the Video Magnifier, as detailed overleaf. The use of a
second computer has been opted for in these cases as a consequence of SDLC2 card
upgrade issues, and the availability of compatible new PCs.
Clear and concise user instructions are provided, in English, German, French, Italian,
Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese languages.
