The session will include and overview of Members’ roles and responsibilities. Affordable This session will be Housing and delivered by Andrew Commuted Jones, an independent Sums surveyor who currently undertakes independent viability assessments for the Council and previously delivered a very well received session on viability assessments. It’s aimed at Members of the Planning Committee although all are invited to attend. This session will include: What is affordable housing and why are financial contributions sometimes accepted rather than housing How affordable housing contributions are assessed when planning applications are made How commuted sums are calculated Making This session is the second evidence being delivered by David based and Elworthy, a now retired defensible Head of Transport and planning Planning at Reading decisions Council, who works for the Planning Advisory Service and previously delivered a very well received session on developing local plans. It’s aimed at Members of the Planning Committee although all are invited to attend. Members have found the session to be very informative in previous years as it covers: Kathy Peach, CAB An introduction and overview of the work of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau Update on and impact of welfare reform on local residents Future welfare policy changes and new legislation Other issues affecting Basildon residents Basildon Council Services In previous years 1 hour briefing sessions have been held for all Members, usually in the late autumn. Given this is some months after the elections, the Overview and Scrutiny Commission agreed in early 2016 to issue emailed briefings to all Members shortly after the elections. These will be available by early June and will cover the below service areas. Members can pick up any queries they may have with individual services.
