Change of Venue
We have had to change the venue of the Saturday night Function and Dinner. Due to the numbers who want to attend the function, the Grand Hotel proved to be to be small. We are still getting enquiries from athletes and friends wanting to attend so have had to arrange a bigger venue.
We were fortunate to be able to move to the Whanganui Racecourse function room which is able
to cater for the numbers wanting to attend. If you wish to stay and need accommodation the
Grand Hotel is not far from the Racecourse, the web address is http://thegrandhotel.co.nz/.
I have to thank those who have sent me cuttings and photo’s to include in the
news-letters. The many thoughts and stories that I have received I will share
over time, they all are very telling of the respect and high regard that Toby is held
in.
“On looking back - at the age I was at the time I had no idea of the opportunity which
was being given to me.
The natural ability that we all had, being developed, was not something I gave any
thought to.
We were all dedicated and trained hard. I put that down to Toby and our respect for him
and the way things were run. Keeping a record book on what training we did each night
was such good focus”.
First time past in the Junior mile and Derek Short leads Don Cornes and
David Bullock . These positions were reversed at the end of the race

to Bowyer pupils.

turned in a solid
performance to win
the women’s 880
yards. Vivienne
Adlum retained her
women’s long
jump crown (17ft
43/4inch and
Janice Kemp
continued her
good form by
winning the
women’s 220
yards in
Eric Kemp scored Wanganui’s only
success in the junior ranks, clocking
2min 0.3sec to
win the junior
880 yards.
