Dear Parents and Friends,
Friday 6th March 2015
Well done to everyone who took part in the mufti on World Book Day. We had some impressive costumes and
it was very tricky for staff to choose just one winner from each class. However, the winners were as follows:
Reception: Valentina Spinelli
Year 1: Fergus McCarthy
Year 2: Harvey Salmon
Year 3: Dylan James
Year 4: William Blake
Year 5: Connor Lowe
Year 6: Ellie Field
All of the winners received a £5.00 book token to spend in Waterstones.
On Thursday afternoon Year 3 visited Lakeside in their finery to go for an afternoon tea experience. This is tied
in with their current work in literacy and is the focus for their own pop up café that they will be holding later this
half term. They learned all about how to behave at such an occasion, they found out about the jobs involved in
a restaurant including the chef and waiting staff and also enjoyed the tasty treats! Having now experienced this
for themselves I am sure they will be rivalling Tea at the Ritz when they put on their own event. We received
very positive feedback from Lakeside who said it was a real pleasure to have our children.
This week a concerned parent alerted me to the fact that parents are using the Spar shop car park and the bus
lay-by to drop off children in the morning- please be very careful as a child was nearly hit on Tuesday. Thank
you.
I was delighted and very proud to accompany Catherine Morris and her family to the High Sheriff's awards last
night. Catherine received an award for Outstanding Achievement- an award truly deserved. The ceremony
celebrated many children and young people who had overcome adversity and difficulty in their lives to go on to
be excellent role models to others. A huge well done to Catherine.
At the Easter church service in a few weeks’ time, we will be sending all of the children home
with a pot planted with a sunflower seed. We would like the children to care for their seed and
eventually plant it in their garden. We will run a competition to see which grows the tallest, more about that
nearer the time, but we want to do this in memory of James Godsell as he had great fun growing his own
sunflower. What we felt would be really special, is if we were able to turn our village into a sunflower garden. If
you have, or know of a wall that can be seen by passers-by where we could potentially plant some additional
sunflowers please let us know.
Contd…….
Wootton School will ensure a first class education for all
within a challenging, secure and happy environment for learning.
Our sports teams have been very busy over the last week and have really focused on doing their best. Last Thursday
the girls football team had a phenomenal win, beating The Bays Primary 5:1! This week the years 5 and 6 girls netball
players had a match at Queensgate, the outcome of which was Queensgate won 4-1. This was followed on
Wednesday of this week by the year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby. They worked well as a team and they won every match. Very
well done to everyone who has represented Wootton recently- you make us feel very proud! Please see reports later.
Have a great weekend.
Kind regards
Head teacher

SPORTS REPORT
Y5/6 Hi 5 Netball Tournament
At Queensgate Primary the year 5 and 6 netball squad of 9 competed in the East Cowes Area Hi 5 Netball tournament on
Tuesday. One school dropped out leaving only 3 schools in the competition. All the schools were playing their first matches
and some schools had to change between Netball and Hi 5 rules which was confusing. All the players played on a rotation
basis and played in many of the different positions, some shooting and some defending. There was some great team work and
a lot of effort put in by all. Georgie Cotton was the first to score in the initial match which Wootton played against
Queensgate, who had some good individual players. Queensgate went on to win 4-1.
In the second match Wootton warmed to the game and with a better understanding of the rules and getting used to the full
sized court managed to get 3 goals from Jess Hendy, Tilly Grimshaw, and Catherine Morris, Priory however sneaked the win by
scoring 4 goals.
The team played really well and could easily have done better if there had been another match to play. I was very proud of
them!

TAG RUGBY
On Thursday, members of the year 3 and 4 tag rugby club went to play in a tournament at Queensgate Primary School against
other schools in the area. This gave the club the chance to practise the skills that they have learnt over the term. Wootton
took part in three games and won all three, playing really well, both as a team and individually. Furthermore, the team
managed to stop all of the other teams from scoring any tries at all, which is an incredible achievement! Well done, Wootton!
Team: Henry Takel, Summer Greenslade, Owen Eales, Cameron Hernes, Becky Wall, Archie White, Cameron O’Reilly, Travis
Gillard.
