Design Lab Diffusion

Design Lab: Factor Affecting the Rate of Diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area
of low concentration.

Low Concentration
Diffusion will continue as long as there is a concentration gradient (a difference in
concentration). Diffusion occurs as a result of molecular motion. Factors that affect
molecular motion will therefore affect the rate of diffusion.
What are some of these factors?
In this lab you will:
identify one factor that affects the rate of diffusion
develop a hypothesis that predicts the relationship between your identified
factor and the rate of diffusion
design a laboratory procedure that can test your hypothesis
perform the experiment and collect sufficient data to support or refute your
hypothesis
