Word Problems
EX: Gasoline costs $3.59 per gallon. Write an algebraic
expression to evaluate what the cost would be if you purchased n
gallons of gas. How much would it cost to purchase 15 gallons of
gas?
EX: Write a word problem that can be evaluated by the
algebraic expression 27 + t, and then evaluate it for t = 1.76.
Think About It!
EX: Write the following as an algebraic expression:
6 plus 4 times y
There are actually two possibilities that are correct......
So when there are two or more operations, it is important to
choose your words carefully. The terms sum, difference,
product and quotient become very helpful in understanding the
intended order of operations.
