SACRAMENTS
Baptism: Please call the parish office to schedule a
baptism. You must be a registered and contributing
member of the parish to have your child receive this
sacrament.
Anointing of the sick: This sacrament is available upon

always be immediately available.
Parish News
PASTOR’S CORNER
As a follow-up to the previous
Pastor’s Corner, allow me to take the
next step in planning a funeral liturgy.
What are your wishes with your
remains?
Full-body
burial
or
cremation? What does the Church
teach about these options? (HINT: no scattering of ashes
in a river/lake or backyard….)
Do you already have a cemetery / plot picked out? What
about a headstone? These can be very difficult decisions
for one’s survivors, especially in the case of a sudden or
unexpected death.
The Church teaches that liturgically the Funeral Mass
should be celebrated in the parish worship space. Viewing
of the body or ‘wake’ is normally done at the funeral
home (it used to be at the deceased’s home many years
ago.) If you are having a Mass, do you wish a particular
presider or homily (priest or deacon for the homily)? And
think about an alternative since we have such a severe
shortage of priests these days.
Some request a funeral luncheon…some at the parish and
some prefer to go to a restaurant. Talk about it ahead of
time.
What hymns, what readings would you like (and who will
proclaim the Word)? If you are having a Mass, will
someone be asked to bring up the gifts? What about
servers (and a stole fee for them and the priest/deacon)?
Some ask to have a rosary prayed for them at the wake;
perhaps a eulogy at either the wake service or at the
luncheon is desired.
I write this because my sister-in-law knows that she has 6
to 18 months left to live, has asked me to preside at her
funeral, and is taking these steps to celebrate her life, not
her death; to embrace God’s calling her home soon, and
to make sure that her family and friends know how much
she loves them.
-Father Mike
SAVE THE DATE!
Fr. Mike’s going away party: Sunday, June 14th
10:00 AM Mass followed by lunch!
Salads and desserts will be needed. Watch the
bulletin for more information.
55+ Potluck: Our February gathering will take place
on Saturday, February 14th at 12:30 PM in the
cafeteria. We will be playing cards and bingo.
Please bring your friends and a dish to pass
for lunch.
Anointing Mass: Everyone is invited to an Anointing
Mass at St. Francis Xavier on Saturday, February 21
at 10:00 AM. If you find yourself in need of spiritual,
emotional, or physical healing we encourage you to
attend.
What are Paraments? Paraments are ornamental
cloths that cover tables and other furnishings in the
altar area of a church. They are actually more than
decoration. They serve as a symbolic proclamation of
the faith, lending a visual dimension to worship.
These cloths match the color of the season; Usually
white, green, purple, or red. The liturgy committee
is now taking on the task of replacing our paraments.
They will need approximately $1000-$1500 to
replace them all, for each season. If you are able to
financially support this project, please call the parish
office.
Knight’s of Columbus Hospitality: The Knights of
Columbus will be hosting hospitality after the 8:00
AM Mass on Sunday, February 15th in the school
cafeteria. County Market homemade donuts, coffee,
milk and juice will be offered. Please come and join us
for some food and fellowship!
Are you praying for a miracle in your life or for
someone who needs an immediate need answered
according to God’s will? Then tune in to Relevant
Radio on FM 92.9 at 3:00 PM everyday during the
Drew Mariani Show to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet
with prayer warriors from all over the world for your
intentions. This 1/2 hour prayer slot is considered
one of the most listened to prayer shows currently
on Catholic radio. The answered prayers from praying
the Chaplet during this 3:00 PM hour are
innumerable and out of this world amazing. Never
lose hope in having your prayers answered! If you’d
like more information on how to pray the Divine
Mercy Chaplet, please contact the parish office.
There is no soup kitchen on Tuesday Feb. 10th.

Eucharistic Adoration:
Conversations with God
You open the door to the adoration chapel
and walk in. You are here to make a holy
hour, but what do you do? The first action is
to genuflect on both knees, if physically able
to do so or you may bow to Jesus, and
acknowledge His Presence in the Eucharist. Kneel or sit
and quiet your thoughts.
Speak to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, just as you
would speak to your best friend. You can share your
joys and sorrows with Him. Tell Him about all of your
concerns, needs, your family, loved ones and friends.
Express sorrow for your faults and those you have hurt.
Ask for the grace to forgive all who have hurt you. Pray
for guidance and healing. Have a conversation with
God. Spend some quiet time listening to Him, with your
heart and mind. You'll be wondering at how quickly the
holy hour goes by.

February 18th at St. Francis Xavier. St. John
the Baptist will celebrate with a Word/
Ashes/Communion liturgy at 6 PM led by
Deacon Jim.
Fasting pertains to those in good health from the age of
18-59, and means that your main meal of the day cannot
be larger than the combined amount of the other two
meals of the day, not eating between meals, except
liquids.
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all those in
good health age 14 and over.
Ash Wednesday is a day of both fasting and abstinence.
We follow the rules of fast and abstinence as an outward
sign of repentance.

This Lent our parish is participating in CRS Rice Bowl, a
faith-in-action program that helps families experience
Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in
need around the world.
Here are three simple ways to bring Lent to life at home:
Place your CRS Rice Bowl in a prominent place in your
home and use it to collect your Lenten sacrifices.
Read the Lenten calendar reflections each day as a
family.
Visit crsricebowl.org to find videos and family activities,
or take Lent outside of the bowl and download the CRS
Rice Bowl app on your iOS or
Android device.
Rice Bowls are available in the back
of church. Watch the bulletin to learn
more on “Operation Rice Bowl.”
