Church: Booneville First Baptist Church
Association: Booneville Baptist Association
Need:
Volunteers are needed to do repairs and renovation to the Emma Quire Mission Center in Booneville, KY.
The Emma Quire Mission Center dates from mid-20th century, and the bathrooms and finishes are worn
and disrepair. They plan to fully renovate the 7 bathrooms, kitchen (residential scale), and plumbing, and
replace floor finishes, repair windows, and paint interiors. Some site work like handrails and steps are ongoing projects that are being completed as time and funds allow. However, the mission season ends in
November, and begins in full force in April, leaving only the winter season to do major renovation work,
so the key work will be on the interior.
While the church mission committee and deacon service groups will participate, there is a shortage of
skilled workers to direct and understand how the system goes together. Painting and floor tile can be
done with supervised unskilled folks, but plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and tile cannot. The time is short,
so help is needed to complete the work.
Dates scheduled are:
 Demolition of gutting of 7 baths and kitchen. Repair needs will be reviewed once cleared.
 Rough framing put back, rough floor, etc. Also underlay for vct in 4 sleep rooms. Will need
plumber at this point to rough in plumbing and ready for drywall.
 Drywall and begin floor finishes (assumes they get plumbing rough in between). Also, floor
underlay and prep.
 Will again be finishes day for drywall and flooring. Some groups may want to paint at this time
in sleeping areas.
 Painting and floor finishes, install window sills and storm panels.
Weather days may move each date by 1 week each – not whole schedule. Call Gary for information.
Description of Ministry:
The Emma Quire Mission Center, in Booneville, is a 7-unit former motel built in the ’50’s/’60’s. It is
beginning its 10th year of providing a residential base for mission groups of up to 30 persons from
churches and organizations in KY, NC, TN, GA, and other states who come to Owsley County for
typically a week and perform mission services (home repair, Bible schools, etc.) for residents in the
county identified and vetted by the Community Action Agency and EQMC. Additionally, a local food
community food pantry uses the facility to distribute food and household supplies to those community
members in need.
Size of Teams Needed: Groups of 2 to 10
Housing and Food Preparation: They hope to confine work to several one-day, max two-day
sessions. However, they are flexible, and if someone or some group wants to spend several days or a
week there, EQMC facility can house folks who wish to sleep over, and can arrange that as well for 4-8
persons (would have to work around the plumbing issue).
Cost per person: No cost.
Materials for Project: Emma Quire Mission Center will provide materials.
