Vocaublary: Tempera paint: a water based paint that appears opaque when dried. Color Scheme: a group of color based on their location on the color wheel Primary colors: the colors from which all other colors are made (Red, Yellow, Blue) Secondary colors: the colors made from mixing equal amount of the primary colors (Orange, Green, Violet) Tertiary colors: the colors made form mixing unequal amount of the primary colors (Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet) Color: the surface quality of an object caused when light strikes an object. It has 3 properties: Hue, Intensity, Value) Opaque: not see-thru Warm colors: Red, orange and yellow. Colors that remind us of things that are warm like the sun. They advance (pop out) in a painting. Cool colors: Green, Blue, Violet. Colors that remind us of the ocean or cold things (ice). They recede in a painting. Neutral colors: have not HUE. Black, white and gray Textural Transition: An area that gradually fades from one color to another or one value to another AND you can still see the stroke (mark) of the brush. ****************************************************************************************************** Choose 1 warm color and 1 cool color a. Write them here: ___________________ & ____________________ b. Get these two colors plus black & white on your palette. Practice on a separate paper: 1. Paint a tint, tone and shade. 2. Paint 2 transitions – one textual and one smooth 3. Paint 3 different complex patterns on top of your tint, tone and shade. Complex patterns have at least 3 different lines or shapes and have at least 3 different colors or values. ****************************************************************************************************** After your practice paper is finished, start your technique painting. USE ONLY ONE WARM COLOR AND ONE COOL COLOR. 1. Draw an interesting composition in pencil with 8-10 spaces. Place one large shape that is about ½ the total area first. Use the composition rules. 2. Mix the following colors and paint them in 5 different spaces: a. b. c. d. e. 3. Tint of warm color Tint of cool color Shade of warm color Shade of cool color Tone of a warm or cool color Paint a SMOOTH transition that goes from white to a color to black. (Mix steps in between colors to make a gradual transition between all colors – Make sure you have pure white, pure color and pure black at some point in your transition) 4. Paint a SMOOTH transition that goes from your warm color to your cool color. 5. Paint a TEXTURAL transition that goes from white to a color to black. Paint in any remaining spaces with tins, tones or shades of your colors. 6. Paint controlled stipple on top of one area. Paint drybrush on top of one area. 7. Add 3 different complex patterns using at least 3 components each. 8. Outline each space with a black line that goes from thick to thin. In addition to the previously stated requirements you will be graded on: creativity, craftsmanship, neatness, Completion, effort, studio usage, working quietly bell to bell Turn this paper in with your finished practice sheet and painting.
