Short Story Project Guidelines
Choose from one of the short stories we have read in class listed below:
DUE DATE:_________________________________(MAJOR GRADE)
“The Most Dangerous Game”
“The Cask of Amontillado”
“A Sound of Thunder”
As a final assignment for the short stories, you will complete and present a creative project of your choice (approved by
me, of course). Listed below are some options; however, you are also welcome to discuss any other ideas you might
have with me before or after class. This project should reflect your creative strengths, so choose wisely! This is an
individual assignment, IT IS NOT PARTNER WORK!! Since this project will count as a major grade, I will expect you to take
it seriously by devoting time and effort to its completion. If your project or presentation is sloppily completed, your
grade will reflect this as well. Remember to turn in an honor statement with this project.
Each presentation should take at least THREE minutes.
Each person must turn in a one page essay explaining A) which story you are representing, B) specifically what
and how your representation directly applies to the story, and C) why you chose to do what you did and what
you liked about it.
Project Assignment Options
Coat of Arms. Create a family coat of arms to represent one of the characters in “Cask of Amontillado.” The
shield should be divided into 4 sections. Each section of the shield should represent: The character's goals,
fears, essential nature in symbolic form - preferably as an animal and three words representing the character.
Movie Trailer. Create for one of the stories that we have read. You will use iMovie to create the trailer. Write a
one-page paper explaining your movie trailer.
Create a Cover . Choose one of the stories and create a book cover for it. You can use media or poster board to
create the cover. You will need a one page paper explaining the images you used for the cover.
Comic Strip. Adapt one short story above into a cartoon strip format. The comic strip will need to relay the
complete story with a pictorial summary. Each segment will need to be detailed, descriptive, and in color. Do
not choose this option if you do not consider yourself an artist of sorts. YOUR COMIC STRIP NEEDS TO BE
LARGE ENOUGH SO THAT IT CAN BE VIEWED BY THE ENTIRE CLASS DURING YOUR PRESENTATION.
Newspaper. Compose a front page of a newspaper that deals with the major events of the story. You will not
need to write a paper for this project.
Lyric Version. Write an original song or poem that tells one of the short stories in its entirety. Your creation
should then be read or performed to some music that goes along with the theme or message of the story.
Collage. Create a collage that depicts the theme or plot in one of the short stories. You will need to write a one
page paper that explains the images you have chosen.
ABC Book. Create an ABC book that deals with one of the short stories we have read/ or the book could cover all
the stories we have read. For each page you will need to explain how the word relates to the story. This project
will not require a one page paper.
Write a Short Story. Write an original short story. The story will need to be a page and a half.

contents, examples and illustrations of the strategies offered, and clearly defined and logical instructions for
survival in different circumstances anyone might find themselves in. You may use the websites below to help
