Machine Shop Manager
Position Description
Department: Production
Reports to: Chief Production Officer
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Date: 03/28/2017
Primary Function:
Supervise and coordinate activities of employees engaged in the Machine Shop operations by
performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:














Analyze work orders to determine production schedules.
Compute amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production
schedules, and requisitions materials from storage area.
Direct employees in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products which fail to
meet standards.
Plan flow of materials through department and develops physical layout of machines
according to work orders.
Study production schedules and estimate machinist’s hour requirements for completion
of job assignment.
Interpret company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations.
Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to employees, and assigns duties.
Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and
quality of product.
Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of
shop, department, or work crew.
Analyze and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems.
Initiate or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals.
Maintain time and production records.
Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
Perform activities of employees supervised.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to ten years related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional skills:
Experience with MasterCam, JobBOSS Shop Management, estimating and scheduling software
preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a very dynamic environment – must have
flexibility with an ability to focus.

mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and
vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
