Competition 2016
We had an great day of judging on Saturday, May 7th. What a fantastic body of entries we saw – very
impressive work. Judging started at 9 AM and finished up around 4:30 PM, pretty fast considering we
looked at 3,741 entries. We had an absolutely incredible group of volunteers that really made things
run smoothly. A special thanks to Rob Flye, Zane Mills and Julie Chittenden of Inglemoor High School
for hosting another year, and all of the great volunteers who helped all day, it was a lot of fun!
Congratulations to Inglemoor High School for winning the 2016 trophy! See page 2 for final results.
2016 EXHIBIT
1st, 2nd and 3rd from each category will now be professionally matted and framed, compliments of
Museum Quality Framing, and go on a one year tour of the state, including exhibits at the Tacoma Art
Museum in September and the Seattle Art Museum in December.
SELECT
If you have a purple “SELECT” ribbon attached to the back of your print, it made it to the final round
(top 10%). Nice job!
FINALIST
If your image has a yellow “FINALIST” ribbon on the back, it was chosen by a judge as one of the final
18 images in that category. Way to go!
JUDGES
They donated the better part of their day to carefully select 36 final images from a body of 3,741
entries, not an easy task. They were thoughtful, professional and did an admirable job. Be sure to
thank them at the June 2nd awards ceremony. Our 2016 judges were:
Kathy Fridstein - Graphic designer and owner of aftertheimage design.
Eirik Johnson - Photographer / member of Photographic Center Northwest faculty.
Mel Curtis - Commercial and fine art photographer
ADVISORY BOARD
Thanks to our hard working advisory board - Sully Hester, Janet Neuhauser, Jill Van Berkom, Chantelle Moran and Rob Flye for the many hours of hard work you donate throughout the year. We couldn’t
have done this event without all of the wonderful volunteer students from Inglemoor, Kentridge, Bainbridge, Meadowdale, Bothell and Woodinville High Schools - YOU ARE AWESOME! This event would not
happen without your great volunteer support.
AWARDS CEREMONY
Thursday, June 2nd from 7-9 PM. Come and see the unveiling of the 2016 exhibit. Museum Quality
Framing will once again graciously host opening night. Their address is 428 Westlake Ave. N. in Seattle – just a few blocks south of Lake Union. Announcements start at 8 PM. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
RETURN OF ENTRIES
Unless you have made other arrangements, please pick up your entries from Kenmore Camera before
the end of June. If you happen to find an image from another school please return it to them (we’re
operating on the buddy system these days).
STUDENTS AND INSTRUCTORS
Very impressive work. I saw so many wonderful images and simply want to encourage you to please
keep it up. It’s so great to be able to see all of the creative minds at work! We could easily assemble
three exhibits from the incredible work we saw.
