Christians of the Orient,
mission more than presence
An interview with Patriarch Grégoire III Laham
Grégoire III Laham, Charlotte d' Ornellas
The Catholic Melkite Patriarch of Antioch, Alexandria and Jerusalem
was born in Syria. He entered the small seminary of Lebanon at the
age of 11 years and pursued life as a student and priest between
Germany, and the Lebanon, spending 26 years in the Holy Land, as
patriarchal vicar. He returned to Syria when he was appointed
Patriarch, some years before the terrible war began to ravage his
homeland. Since then he has increased and strengthened the work of
the charities, but also devotes all his energies fighting against the
emigration of Christians from his country as from the whole
region.Known for his enthusiasm and his frank speech, he does not
mince words when addressing the issue of coexistence, that of
international responsibility in the Syrian conflict, and the injustice
prevailing in Palestine, and especially emphasizing one point: the
Christian presence in the Orient should not be willed simply for itself,
but also for the mission required of it in this region of conflict. In this
testimony he evokes his career, his mission in the Holy Land, the war
in Syria, the issue of refugees and that of Islam.

Lives of the Saints
Jerzy Popieluszko
Truth versus totalitarianism
Père Bernard Brien, Michel Santier, Charles Wright
Father Popieluszko's miracle has now opened the door to his
canonisation.
Father Bernard Brien, the main witness, provides an intimate and
evocative portrait of Father Popieluszko, the Polish martyr, whose
fervent commitment for truth thawed the ice of totalitarianism. This
miracle is being related by Father Brien for the very first time, sealing
for posterity the union of the two men both born on 14th September
1947. Father Brien illuminates through this work the message of this
great figure who changed his life for ever. Former chaplain of the
trade union Solidarnosc, assassinated in 1984 at the age of 37 by the
internal security agents of the communist regime, the young Polish
vicar, with his « sermons for the motherland » was the figurehead of
the resistance of a whole nation against the communist regime. The call to spiritual resistance, taking its roots in the Gospel, remains
as relevent as ever to us today.

Collection
Saint Elisabeth of the Holy
Trinity
Dominique Poirot, Bernard Sesé
Saint Elizabeth of the Holy Trinity was was born in 1880 and beatified
by Pope John Paul II just over a century later in 1984. Her humility
continues to inspire Christians and love for the Holy Trinity. Her
mother had hoped her daughter would make a "good match". And at
21 she turned to God himself entering the Carmel of Dijon. Three
years later she wrote her famous prayer: "O my God, Trinity whom I
adore ..." Her mystical ascent in silence, the hidden life, and suffering
is the accomplishment of the "praise of the glory of the Holy Trinity."
The influences of Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross and Teresa of
Lisieux deeply inscribe her in the Carmelite tradition. When in 1905
she was struck by an incurable illness, Elizabeth would continue to
follow the observances of the convent heroically facing what she
would call "the work of destruction," on her physical being. "I am
moving towards Light, Love, Life", such were her last words before her
death as dawn broke on 9 November 1906. It was her belief that "
that in heaven my mission will be to attract souls by helping
them through simplicity and love to adhere to God, and keeping them
in this interior silence, permitting God’s imprint, transforming them
within Himself "

Saint Anne
From Jerusalem to Auray
Anne Brassié, Jean-Marie Paupert
In the West and the Middle East, countless girls, churches, chapels,
villages, hotels, hospitals and ships are named Anne. This story is that
of a young girl born in Palestine, married to Joachim who waited
twenty years for a child: who was Mary who in turn begot Jesus. Upon
her death, the cult of St. Anne spread so quickly that we now pray to
her through out the whole world. To understand why, we follow the
pilgrims of Sainte-Anne d'Auray. Since her appearance to a Morbihan

Life of the Church
A Cardinal at the Heart of
the Church
An interview with Cardinal Burke
Raymond Leo Burke, Guillaume d'Alançon
Presented as an ultra-conservative opposed to the line of Pope
Francis, Cardinal Raymond Burke Leo is very representative of the
current which has been traversing the American church for years and
which aspires to an increasingly visible commitment by Catholics in
public life especially in favour of human life from conception. A
recognized specialist in canon law, and called to Rome by Pope
Benedict XVI whom he admires, Cardinal Burke comes from a modest
family of farmers. Ordained as priest and bishop amidst the powerful
currents stirring American society around abortion and the moral
commitment of politicians, he takes up strong positions that make him
known more widely beyond the United States.
In the 2014 Synod on the Family in Rome he appears as a figure
wishing to adhere to the traditional doctrine of the Church regarding
the divorced and the remarried and, despite himself, he finds himself
presented as an opponent of Pope Francis.
Far from the exalted portraits that are made of him, through this work
he shares with us a sincere portrayal of his deep convictions on issues
related to life, on marriage, on the commitment of Catholics in society
and on his attachment to the Church.

Essay-Testimony
Easy way to start believing
The keys to the Kingdom are quite at hand
Pierre Durieux
To have faith : the most decisive, most automatic and least
considered act of our destiny ? Ask a believer why he believes in God,
and an awkward silence usually follows punctuated with more or less
muffled, stifled answers. It is indeed difficult to justify a love which, at
its most basic level, transcends the borders of our physical world.
So why do you believe in God? The world continues to ask this
question, either with sensitivity or with violence. And Christians do not
always seem ready with an answer.
Faith does not result from reasoning, but neither is it without reason.
Faith is not the result of a calculation or a bet, but neither is it devoid
of motives. And if faith is first and foremost an act of grace, it remains
nevertheless an act of freedom, a decision accessible to all, and an
experience to be lived by all.
This book will address those who want to push ajar the doors of the
Kingdom, or for those wishing to understand why it is that so many
people have already gone through. ISBN: 978-2-36040-692-0

Testimony
Near-death experiences
A celestial sign opening us to invisible Life.
Patrick Theillier
Is there life after death? There are increasing testimonies and studies
on those considered dead, and who claim to have returned from
"another world", a « magnificent » world. Far from being a trivial
experience, their vision of life from then on is transformed and fear of
death is dissipated.
What if these « near-death experiences » (NDE) were really true ? That
life really is stronger than death, and that Life indeed exists after life ?
However exceptional these experiences may be, they are the subject
of serious scientific studies, arousing the interest of the Church to the
same extent as other mysterious events such as apparitions or
miracles.
Using significant testimonies, this book searches for clues and imparts
valuable information, both in terms of reason as in terms of faith,
providing elements to respond to that great question of our passing.
The author, a physician and a Catholic, is former head of the Office of
Medical Observations of Lourdes, who has reached the conviction that
these NDE’s would really seem to be a sign from heaven, a reminder of
our spiritual nature, and which open us to the invisible Life. Believers
or unbelievers, just passing on this earth, should we not be preparing
for another Life?

Spirituality, martyrs, Eastern Europe
Witnesses to the Faith in
Eastern Europe
Didier Rance
We are enveloped by a cloud of witnesses ... With gratitude and hope,
with remembrance and forgiveness, let us listen to the story of
suffering and of love, experienced by our brothers and sisters in the
faith. " John Paul II.
In response to this call, here are ten portraits of the great witnesses to
faith from Eastern Europe: bishops working underground (who would
later become cardinals), priests, nuns, laymen and women. These
portraits are based on the very numerous interviews which exist and
the study behind the testimonies has led to a surprising discovery: two
kinds of Christians do not exist, that is those destined for hardship,
suffering or violent death, and those leading lives where the price of
being Christian represents no more than belonging to a club or
association. Being a Christian is always and everywhere just as
demanding or "crucifing", an act of such magnificence that it is always
worth the while to follow Christ. At a time where the testimony to faith
is ever more demanding, the message of these witnesses is one of
great encouragement. As the author writes, "to meet these great
witnesses of the faith ... has been one of the greatest graces of my life,
and I remain under constant gratitude to them and to God in that
which he has been able to inspire from these men and women of our
time. And to impart this gratitude is the sole aim of this book. "

The extraordinary mystery
of joy
M. l'abbé Matthieu Dauchez
An extraordinary account of the joy and energy experienced by the
street urchins of Manilla.
Beggars of love, the first book of this trilogy by Father Dauchez, traces
the spiritual path illuminated by lessons on dignity, courage and love
given daily by these children of the street. In this second book, Matthieu Dauchez explores the secrets of their
joy. How can we explain that a child of the street, who has so often
been subject to only misery and unhappiness, be capable of such
sincere and profound joy. This tremendous joy, so present in these
children of the streets of Manilla, the poorest of the poor, is at first for
us quite disconcerting. Based on the real life experiences of these poor children of Manilla,
this book develops the themes of joy around 4 aspects, the simple
attraction of joy, the joy in giving, the sources and the fruits of joy, and
that of the street and the Cross. This book opens ajar the gate of
Heaven lying beyond the hell of the street.

The heroines of God
An Epic of the religious Missionary Nuns of the 19th Century
Agnès Brot, Guillemette de Laborie
This is the astonishing and untold story of the nineteenth century
French nuns who left their homes in their thousands in the name of
faith and the love of challenge. Equipped with only cornettes and
rosarybeads, they would cross oceans, jungles, deserts, sharing the
lives of the "natives" from the continents world-wide. Sometimes even
ahead of explorers and colonizers. These intrepid, intelligent,
courageous and generous women would devote their whole life to the
service of their adopted country. They established schools, hospitals,
social welfare structures ... What they left behind is composed of
letters, logbooks, tales, and in some areas, even memories which are
still quite alive. This thrilling history of the lives of eight of them - Suzanne Aubert,
Lucile Mathevon, Marie-Rose Lapique, Jeanne-Marie Autin,
Marie-Françoise Perroton, Marie-Jeanne Rumebe, Sophie de Villèle and

Essay - Church Life
A devouring fire
The words of a monk on exercising mercy
Dom Samuel Lauras
I will address those burning topics as a son of the Church.
This is indeed the Church, She who is as much exposed to
contradictions today as She has ever been.
I gaze to the distance, not to a golden era which does not exist, any
more than an ideal past which does not exist. My gaze draws its
strength from the experience of our elders in order to consider the
present and its "real" content. It looks beyond the "crisis" to emerge
with the conviction that tomorrow will also bring its constraints.
We must admit that for over twenty centuries and until now the fate of
mankind has mainly rested, for better or for worse, on Western
shoulders, and supported by what can only be called Christian culture.
It could be that, gradually, in order to continue its course, mankind will
have to find other shoulders elsewhere to support it. Where would
this be? In Africa, Asia, or Latin America? Or here at home, perhaps ...
In all cases Christ will continue to be its Head. And we Christians have
a heavy responsibility. As to Believe in the future, is to Hope.

God's Goodness
Mercy, sacred asset in God's game
Michel-Marie Zanotti-Sorkine
After 2000 years of Christian life where certainly many beings have
already implemented mercy, the time is here indeed to invite the
whole Church and all those who have been baptized to imitate as
strongly as ever through word and gesture the mercy of God, mercy
which defines his unconditional love for each of his children. We are at the hour of mercy. It is not a subject of reflexion, but a
reality that Christ himself lived and which all the saints of history are
begging us to live in our turn. Every day, God comes to bestow his
cloak of mercy on, it is now for us to do the same, and replace our very
small human ideas for the love of justice with the effective beauty of
mercy. So we will help Christ to save what seems to be lost. So speaks Father Zanotti-Sorkine in this fiery meditation on God's
mercy and through his beautiful and poignant gallery of his portraits
of the Gospel.

The tenderness of God
Ludovic Frère, Michel-Marie Zanotti-Sorkine
In the homily of the Mass inaugurating his pontificate, Pope Francis
emphasized that " tenderness is not the virtue of the weak, but it
reflects a fortitude and an attentiveness, compassion, true openness
to others, love. "
Tenderness is a reality to be lived, together with a profound need of
the human being. It is a relationship of strength, not of domination.
The words and gestures of Jesus are tender.
This book has the great merit to place the tenderness of God at the
very center of our lives and calls for a conversion to tenderness which
urges to be dared to be lived.

Great is His Mercy
Claire Patier
Great is the mercy of God, sings King David. Yes, but what about God’s
wrath, His vengeance, His jealousy, His punishment? The Bible is one,
and if it proclaims God's mercy it cannot say anything else at the same
time, so it convenes asking why God's wrath, vengeance, jealousy and
retribution are all expressions of his mercy and his infinite love. His
merciful love is so great that it takes a multitude of images to express
it, a multitude of words which, when evoking God, have a much richer
meaning than when evoking purely human behavior. In this year of
mercy how good it is to reimmerse ourselves into this ocean of biblical
beauty.

Theological Essay
At the heart of Christian
anthropology with Maître
Eckhart
Marie-Anne Vannier
Christianity is unique amongst all religions, even monotheistic,
as being the only religion where God takes on a human face. We may
have grown accustomed to this, but for our contemporaries this is a
key point to be rediscovered. It is an enormous opportunity which we
should fully embrace and which opens a path in our secularized
society.
With the Incarnation, a further step is taken: a child of God is given to
us. Using contemporary language, this essay puts forward the
essentials of Christian anthropology, which is founded on Christology
and Trinitarian theology. By building on Meister Eckhart, who goes to
the very heart of Christian anthropology, we are invited, following on
from Maximus the Confessor, to "become by grace what God is by
nature" and shown the scope of Christian anthropology in today's era.

Essay
Religion, let truth abide
Mgr Roland Minnerath
The transformation of an era seems to be underway : globalization,
climate change, demographic collapse in the West, domination of the
economy, rejection of any transcendent reference, the systematic
carving-up of Judeo-Christian anthropology, media packaging, lack of
perspectives and mobilizing projects for the future... a disturbing
picture of the city of man. Like that experienced by St. Augustine in the
early Vth century, standing shaken before the ruins of a retreating
world and the uncertainty of what was to follow. Shocked at the news
of the capture of Rome by the Goths in 410, Augustine gave us one of
the most grandiose ever meditations on human history in the City of
God.
This major work interprets human history in the light of the history of
salvation. Augustine sees men divided into two cities, putting their
trust either in God or in themselves. "Two loves have made two cities:
love of oneself to the contempt of God has made the earthly city;
whilst the love of God to the contempt of oneself, the heavenly city
"(Civ XIV, 28). Today the city of man, caught up in entropy, needs to be
re-invigorated and elevated towards "the whole truth". Christianity is
an unknown, alas, reservoir of information capable of re-boosting it.
This is Archbishop Minnerath's buoyant message, an essay brimming
with hope and with which we can address the future.

Vatican II, the Council and
the issues
Mgr Marc Aillet, Cardinal Robert Sarah
Fifty years on, the Second Vatican Council still raises questions. Both
by the 2400 Priests, Cardinals, Bishops and major Superiors present,
as by the number of associated specialists or observers, by its media
coverage, by its pastoral rather than doctrinal intentions, by the
volume of texts it gave rise to, it is certainly a change from the twenty
Ecumenical Councils that had preceded it.
Hailed by some as a breath of fresh air that the institution so much
needed, it continues to feed the hostilities of those who saw in it an
unparalleled break with tradition. Billed as the springtime of the
Church, it gave rise to a crisis as defined in serious terms by Pope Paul
VI himself, a few years after its closing. The young theologian Joseph
Ratzinger, presenting the key theological issues of the Council to the
German Bishops, on the eve of the opening session of the meeting,
showed how all Councils have in fact started enthusiastically,
concluded more skeptically, have opened up long periods of crisis,
before embarking upon a serenity in line with its initial promises.

Catholics, get involved !
Pierre-Hervé Grosjean
Freedom revolutionized, the collapse of religious practice, the loss of
ethical standards ...facing these sociological upheavals, Roman
Catholics seem to be swimming against the tide. Will they dilute their
principles, or even withdraw? Abbe Grosjean calls on them to reject
this temptation and persevere in serving to influence the world
entrusted to them.
This book encourages the commitment of Catholics - especially the
younger generation - in public life, for the service of the common
good. They must be " uninhibited witnesses " in the words of Benedict
XVI and must «come down from their balconies " and take action as
urged by Pope Francis. It explores the foundations of this commitment
and the challenges for the coming generation. A frank and realistic
essay, brimming with hope.

Waiting for marriage
Intimacy, affection, prayer
Mgr Marc Aillet, Père Louis
Have you already been confronted with strong love ? Are you
constructing a relationship which may be the love of your life ? Or are
you dreaming of discovering one day deep and meaningful love ? And
you are torn between the patient constuction of a meaningful
relationship with the impatience of the gestures of love.
This sensitive subject provokes many opinions. In particular « but if
we are getting married and we are deeply and truly in love, we can
also have a sexual relationship because we feel ready. And we are not
alone. Doesn’t it just prove once again that the rules of the Church are
unrealistic, even outdated ».
Responding to such questions this book provides a truly great and
beautiful vision of sexuality and the enormous advantage to be gained
for young couples to wait until their marriage.

A spiritual preparation for
the birth of our child
Month by month with God
Eline Landon
There are a great number of works available on preparing for birth,
but none of them deal with the spritual aspect. Month by month,
through prayer and meditation on the bibilical texts, this work offers
the expecting mother a spiritual preparation for the arrival of her
child. It also includes the father who can in his turn accompany his
child until the day the child can be held in his arms. This different way
of opening ones heart to the presence of ones child allows the couple
to jointly contemplate the greatness of life illuminated by God's light. .

A mother's eyes
The secrets of maternal happiness
Isabelle Laurent
When parents behold their child for ther first time they are
unanimous in proclaiming that they have given birth to the most
wondrous of wonders. Then mundane routine takes over, with the
tribulations of material problems, an often complex education, all of
which combine to gradually tarnish that image of wonder so much
admired. And a torrent of questions ensues.
Am I a good mother? How can I adapt to the personality of my child
which is so very different to mine? How can I keep alive that rapture
from those earlier years of the lives of our children? For all parents or
those who are about to become one, this book is an ode to maternal
love as betowed by God. This essay and testimony does not seek to
advise, instruct or supply that magic recipe ... because they do not
exist! But the readers will be inspired by the testimony of the daily life
of this mother of ten children, and draw resources to discover and
rediscover the joys and confidence needed to carry out their role as
parent.

When the couple separates
The road back to recovery
Thierry Maucour
Confronted with the trial of conjugal separation, the Christian spouse
often stays in limbo, plagued with a sense of misunderstanding and a
rejection of an insurmountable reality. Very few works deal with the
arid affective and spiritual terrain of life after a conjugal separation.
This work seeks to morally support the separated or divorced couple
and help them in their personal reconstruction by gaining that inner
serenity. Nurtured by a sense of peace and hope, they can then
rediscover how much the grace of the Sacrament of Marriage still
continues to unite the spouses even after their separation.

A new "communion" as a
Catholic who divorced
Béatrice Bourges
Can a Catholic who is divorced and 'remarried' go to Communion ?
This is one of those inflammatory questions which causes controversy.
Those directly concerned tend to stay on the sidelines not taking part
in the debate, but finding themselves at the centre of virulent
discussions which further increase their pain. It is a tricky subject
indeed with divorce unfortunately affecting an ever increasing number
of families from all backgrounds. Catholics are far from being spared
this ordeal. It is a painful subject, and one to be addressed with the
utmost sensitivity. Beatrice Bourges testifes. She describes her experience as a divorcee
who 'remarried'. Her spiritual journey is long and fraught with
difficulty, incomprehension, frustration and anxiety. But through her
suffering, she is accompanied by Christ with his silent, respectful and
ever-loving presence, even in the most painful of moments, leading
her to her own very real acceptance and and unexpected
understanding and of what really lies at the heart of this issue.

With Christ, in times of
illness
Père Pierre Lyonnet
Sickness causes strife. Bearing its pain makes us retreat into our
innermost selves, to God himself, in order to draw from him the
strength we need to continue in the face of our suffering.
That is exactly what Father Pierre Lyonnet did. Without revolt or
withdrawal, he persevered in his mission with a profound love for
Christ. And he abandoned himself into the hands of the Lord. A deep
spirituality emanates from the terse style of this writing. Those united
in the pages of this book will be able to provide succour to the
afflicted, and join him in his prayer and his offerings, throughout their
journey of suffering with Christ. This is spiritual accompaniment, with prayer and meditation for the ill

Reflections on the faith for
those with faith
Père Jean-Marie Brauns
The faith of the Christian is in constant progress, ever plunging and
ever deepening, as if a new world is mysteriously present in the old.
And yet neither the universe, nature, nor society has changed. God
speaks to all of us and the listener will not get confused because each
of us is known and is spoken to by God. This is an accessible essay on the essential, broaching subjects not just
reserved for the theologian. This reflexion probes the life of every
believer's very faith. Those who have faith in the Word of God are
taken even further into the deeper messages of the Bible, and will find
that these chapters clarify and illuminate what they may sometimes
find complex or incoherent.

Monks of Palestine :
spiritual portraits
Nicolas Egender, Marie-Anne Vannier
Prefaced by Marie-Anne Vannier, author of "Cheminer avec le Maître
Eckhart".
The Fathers of the Desert have long been known and appreciated for
their apothegms, the maxims transcending all ages. These five
portraits of palestinian monks being proposed by Father Nicolas
Egender, take us further into their universe. It is a spirituality very
much alive and relevent to us today, asking of its readers : « What is
your message to the monks and nuns of the 21st century, specially
those who have followed your steps to live in Palestine. What message
do you have for our Church today »? Following on from the Palestinian monks who, anchored by their
prayer to God, transformed the desert into a city, Father Nicolas
Egender has been able to open, in Jerusalem and still today at
Chevetogne, the paths of unity and interreligious dialogue, procuring a
holy story from each individual, providing « an image of a
compassionate Christ, the friend of man ». Its result is a tonic way of
life being proposed to the reader.

The Fathers of the church
and the liturgy
François Cassingena-Trévedy
Celebrating is a complex physical and intellectual act, an act which, if
actually called upon, engages all human dimension. It is precisely this
depth of which the Fathers of the Church help us to become aware.
The mosaic of the texts appearing before us reconstructs the whole
ethics of the celebration; it reveals concordance so dazzingly, all that
which is normative for the Fathers in the matter and that to which they
intend the Christian assembly to travel towards..
From these testimonies François-Cassingena Trévedy establishes a
behavioral profile, through a "concelebration" of clergy and laity, from
the fourth and fifth centuries, of essentially not just the « outward
man », but even more, and to use an Augustinian terminology, the
"inward man".

The Holy Tunic of Argentueil
A history of Christ's
seamless Tunic
The Official 2016 Ostension Book
François Le Quéré
Brought over from Constantinople, the Holy Tunic was given to the
priory of Argenteuil in the year 800 by Charlemagne. It has remained
there ever since, escaping potential destruction during the religious
wars;and those of the Revolution, during which it was cut into four
pieces and hidden.
From the beginning, the Holy Tunic has been venerated as the
seamless robe given to Christ on his way to Calvary, bartered by the
soldiers playing dice during the Crucifixion. It bears traces of blood at
locations corresponding to those of the Holy Shroud of Turin. The
origin of the fabric has been the subject of many studies and its
authenticity has remained unchallenged over the centuries. This book
summarizes the current studies taking place, and allows everyone to
discover for himself or better understand one of the most remarkable
relics of the Passion of Christ, spanning over a thousand years and in

Marriage and Family in the
Catholic Church
Eleven cardinals provide pastoral enlightenment
Winfried Aymans, Collectif
This book is a collection of relatively brief articles written by cardinals,
most of whom are exercising their ministry in various dioceses. It
wants to offer to the Synod and more widely to the Church in general
suggestions in order to conduct a Catholic pastoral care of the family,
in harmony with the Magisterium, especially with the post-synodal
exhortation of John-Paul II’s « Saint Familiaris Consortio » and the «
Catechism of the Catholic Church ». Following « Abiding in the truth of
Christ » (Demeurer dans la vérité du Christ), published at ARTEGE in
September 2014 and which presented a theological reflection on the
Sacraments of Matrimony, Penance and the Eucharist, this work brings
together a pastoral testimony to the implementation of this theology.

The catechism explained
Mgr Raymond Centène
The Church lives to transmit the Good News of the Kingdom of God, to
know and love Christ, to invite men and women of all countries and of
all generations to follow in the footsteps of Christ. This is its main
purpose. In this essential vocation of the Church, the episcopal
ministry has a specific responsibility: to transmit the faith.
This book is given to us as Bishop Raymond Centene's response to the
call of his own episcopal motto "For the generation to come to know
Him."
It seeks to enlighten, strengthen and support all those who share and
will share the concern of his episcopal heart. He gives us here a full
and bright presentation of the Catholic faith, accessible to all.
These interviews on the Catechism of the Catholic Church are offered
in question/answer form, an essential guide to discover or relive the
pillars of faith.

The Church in One Hundred
Questions
Père Emmanuel Pisani
How can we define the "Church" ? It is a complex institution subject to much criticism throughout history.
To deflate the many legends and misconceptions, our
author Emmanuel Pisani has led a series of interviews on the question
with the "experts" : priests and theologians alike. The Dominican has
raised with them not only recurrent objections which often come up in
conversation with « non-believers » but also has encouraged them to
provide their testimonies on the beauty of the Church, the Bride of
Christ. Whilst allowing the spiritual dimension of the Church to be
perceived, this book also answers the most basic of questions that
often leave us perplexed and seeks to restore the many historical
truths to show the Church as it was willed by Christ.

Exegesis
The intelligence of the
Scriptures - volume 5 - Year
C
Sundays (Feast days)
Marie-Noëlle Thabut
The Bible is a library : to be entered into with a good teacher. With the
reform of Vatican II, the Bible is now within everyone's reach. The
liturgy for Sundays and Feast Days covers in three years the totality of
the Biblical books. It's not enough to simply read or hear the word of
the Bible every Sunday in order to understand it. We still need a good
guide : " he opened their spirit to the intelligence of the Scriptures",
says Saint Luke (24,45). In fact the risen Jesus Christ made himself
immediately visible to the initial Christian communities as being the
key to entering the biblical texts, to make connections, read and
understand. Since then, it has been the mission of the Church to open
the minds of each generation to the intelligence of the Scriptures.
Marie-Noëlle Thabut is really the best of our guides for this. By
introducing in the deepest sense the various texts, in making us
appreciate the harmonics, with the clarity of the rarest of didactic
talents and using straightforward language she offers to the widest
readership audience the means to enter into the biblical liturgy of
Sunday. A simple and clear presentation of all the lectionary texts for Sundays
and feasts of three years. An educational book that brings the Bible to
everyone. ISBN: 978-2-36040-065-2
Format: 240 x 160 mm

Literature - older teenagers and adults
On life, on death, on love
Gabriel Privat
When life, love and death hits us ... Through a short series of
surprising novellas, the author takes us straight to the heart of the
essential questions of our existence: what is our life worth , what will
our death be ? We smile, we are moved, we are shocked. Torn
between claws and tenderness the characters are posing critical
questions and are confronting us with their choices. How far are we
willing to go to keep those we love alive? What is the price of a life, the
desire to have children? What are the consequences of love, the end of
love, the lack of love? For adults and older teenagers.

Family Life
Love and sexuality
Raise the subject in time and protect your child
Professeur Henri Joyeux
Should we not be getting in earlier on questions put by our children on
«sex and stuff»? Over the course of his career professor Henri Joyeux
has met with thousands of youngsters of all ages and from all
horizons and his instant reply is : "YES, and the earlier the better"!
They learn about maths, history, geography, languages, but what do
they learn about sexuality? This subject has to be brought up as soon
as possible as even if children don’t ask, they're still being prematurely
bombarded by the outside world (much sooner than you would have
thought). To INFORM is to help them construct their own IMMUNITY,
and develop their own emotional and sexual balance. They want to
know EVERYTHING. And we cannot get out of it, as the information
they’re getting comes from their environment, school playgrounds,
friends, media, internet, and which is most of the time insufficient,
destabilizing, misinforming and even violent. Using science and humour, Professor Joyeux offers food for thought,
raising all the questions put by parents and children without taboo :
masturbation, homosexuality, running away from home, suicide,
incest, sodomy… Our youngsters are often disturbed, as they are
under the impression things are being dissimulated, or are unclear.
Sexual information is quite the individual and collective challenge for
our civilisation. And with all too often hapless parents bearing the
brunt of it all.

The Story of the
Benedictines
Laurent Bidot, Hugo Hallé, Thibault Nève
On Monte Cassino's summit in seventh century Italy, monks from
France are looking for the remains of a man. Around them, everything
is ruin and desolation. Their mission is to find the relics of the one who
wanted to be a hermit and eventually went on to found one of the
largest monastic orders in the world: the Benedictines.
This was Benedict whom Pope Paul VI would later name "Patron of
Europe". During his life, Saint Benedict drafted a rule to bring young monks
answers to their daily questions. Charlemagne deemed these daily tips
so beneficial that they they were implemented in the monasteries of
his empire. Later, the monks would use these principles to found a
large abbey in Cluny. At its apogee it will be the largest church in
Christendom. Vezelay, Moissac, Paray-le-Monial, Le Bec-Hellouin, Fontgombault,
Cistercian, Clairvaux, Valloires, Royaumont Hautecombe, Fontenay,
Sept-Fons, Acey, La Trappe, and many other Benedictine, Cluny and
Cistercian abbeys in France and Europe will be born from this
monastic momentum.
