Programme
Ripley Scouts welcome you to
this years musical extravaganza!!
We have a fantastic line up of local talent for your delights and we thank you for coming to share
your day with us.
This year is very special to Ripley Scouts as we are celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Ripley.
We are particularly proud of our specially commissioned centenary totem pole which has just been
formally unveiled by Lord Baden-Powell and forms a formidable backdrop to today’s event.
1st Ripley Scout Group is a very successful Troop due to the dedication and free time given by its
leaders and from a very strong and supportive executive committee.
All profits from today’s event will go towards the general upkeep of the Scout Group and ensure we
can maintain our headquarters and continue to provide a safe environment for our young members
to continue to develop their life skills.
The recent announcement that the new Chief Scout is to be Bear Grylls will surely ensure the continued
enthusiasm of the Scout movement in general and will wet everyone’s appetite for adventure.

Sunday’s Child
was started by songwriter/guitarist David Barrett and
guitarist Gef Palmer, they were joined later by vocalist
Maria Megally. They first started performing as an acoustic trio and established themselves
on the Surrey and London acoustic scene, their highest profile date was Guilfest last year. They
met bassist Chris Ross at one of their gigs and he has been influential in expanding their line
up to a full electric band recently recruiting drummer Matt Price. They now gig as an acoustic
5 piece with Chris on bass and Matt on percussion. They will play at Ripley as the plugged in
version. They have enjoyed media attention with local paper coverage and live sessions on local radio,
Brooklands FM and Eagle Radio. They have a big profile gig coming up on June 7th where they play in Hyde Park.
■ They
have a soul/rock/blues feel to their material and also play a full set of
covers with material from Stevie Wonder/ Prince /Etta James / Nina Simone and
much more. They are available for paid covers gigs. They are currently recording
their CD which people will be able to buy from their web site on myspace.

Baby Jayn
Joined today by special guest
guitarist Tricky
Baby Jayn has come about over the last year out of
four musicians who have been individually building
their own reputations on the pro music scene... Working
& co-writing alongside an eclectic range of artists &
producers such as Amy Winehouse, Skin, Craigy Dodds
(Sugababes, Destiny’s Child), Dean James (Duran Duran,
Nitin Sawhney, David Gray, Paul McCartney) to JTQ, John
Martyn & Shakin Stevens... It seemed to be a natural
move after several years of hooking up with each other
through these various projects to get together & produce
their own material.

After the success of playing Jazz at last year’s Ripley Rocks, Behind Bars have foolishly avoided building on
their strengths by instead working up a new set of classic soul covers. Marvel at their folly as they get the 2009
festivities off to a soul start!

West Surrey Training Windband
The West Surrey Training Windband was set up approximately 12 years ago to cater for the needs of young
musicians in the Woking area who play brass and woodwind instruments. The aim of the band is to give these
students the skills of ensemble playing and to show them that music can be very sociable too!
We meet every Thursday during term-time and cover a range of music including classics, film, stage and original
windband compositions. Players in the band range from approximately grade 2 to grade 4 when they will then
move onto our sister band for more advanced players.
The band is always looking for new members so if you think this could be for someone you know and you would
like further information, please contact: Surrey Arts Northwest on 01483 519303.

punchy covers of rock and blues classics. Vocalist/guitarist Jo Corteen effortlessly combines the haunting
melodies of Eva Cassidy with the earthy raunchiness of Janis Joplin while guitarist/vocalist Chris Mayer’s fast
fretwork and skilful slide guitar work draws comparisons with the original Talented Mr Ripley himself, Eric
Clapton. With an engine room featuring the rootsy bass playing of Steve Cox and the powerful drumming of Bob
Bonser, the far-out four-piece are guaranteed to give you a good time. Don’t expect to stand still.

■ After
last year’s appearance, the band is delighted to be playing again at this year’s Ripley Rocks.
It all started in 1961 when Peter, John and Peter with 2 other mates from Surbiton Grammar School formed
The Intruders. Still only in their early teens, the band played at numerous local gigs (in between studying for their
exams) and felt very much a part of the “Swinging Sixties” music scene. Three and a half years later, in 1964,
the group disbanded as they all took different career paths and didn’t play together again for nearly 44 years.
■
■ The two Peters and John, who remained close friends throughout, decided to re-form the band last year and
were joined by Peter Perry’s brother Keith to become the fourth member of The Intruders. They have been playing
together as often as possible since then and have just completed their “The Intruders Ride Again” 2008 UK comeback
tour of 4 dates (their 60th birthday parties and last year’s Ripley Rocks). Following the success of this tour, they
are soon hoping to announce the start date for their forthcoming world tour “The Intruders Fly Me to Timbuktu Tour”.
■ At this year’s Ripley Rocks, the band will be playing an instrumental set of Shadows hits, before being joined
by “Friend” and local singer/guitarist Doug Carvey to play a selection of classic ‘Sixties’ hits.
Band members: Peter Perry – Lead guitar and vocals, Keith Perry – Rythmn guitar, John Gray – Bass guitar,
Peter Still – Drums. Friend: Doug Carvey – Vocals, guitar and harmonica.

The best of rock and blues from the sixties
■ The band was formed in 1966 at Southampton University and
