Discuss the morphology of the words: suffixes, taking a root word and adding to it to change the meaning of the word. What is the object on the front cover? d. Describe what a rectangle shape. e. What does the word prism mean? 2. Skill Introduction: a. Cause and Effect – as we read today, find out what causes a rectangle to become a rectangle prism. 3. Strategy Introduction: a. Inferring – roll a pencil on a desk to the left. Ask students what will happen if it continues to roll. Talk about how this is inferring. 4. Fluency: Intonation – read page 8 and not how your voice changes with the question mark. Writing Standard: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic? Task: Write an informational piece on what makes a rectangular prism and give examples by drawing them. This can be done in a shared writing format. IF/THEN: Inferring – if students struggle with the strategy, talk about what would happen if you kicked the trash can over. Encourage students to give you another example.
