Creative collaboration in 2nd grade!
Designing and building leprechaun trapsSTEM learning in action
Mrs. Aborn's 2nd Graders Are Busy Bees!
Second grade has had a busy few weeks since vacation. In groups, students designed
and created leprechaun traps. Ask your child how their trap worked.
Enjoying some Irish songs with Mr. Sysyn
On Friday, our favorite volunteer, Mrs. Sysyn came in to do a special graphing project.
Everyone enjoyed our math activity. In the afternoon, Mr. Sysyn came in to tell students
about how he celebrated St. Patrick's Day with his large family when he was a young boy.
He shared a couple of songs with us. We even played instruments while we sang. It was
a very fun afternoon. I hope you have a great weekend!

1st Grade Fun with Mrs.
O'Brien
This week first grade continued
out work with "r" controlled
vowels. We noticed that "er", "ir"
and "ur" make the same sound.
Next weeks spelling homework
will focus on spelling words with
"ar". The children love that
particular "r" controlled vowel
because it sounds like a pirate!
During our informative writing we
wrote about gardens and how to
grow a plant. We even made
step by step diagrams about
growing a plant. For math we are
working on subtraction strategies.
When should we use a model,
count on or find 10? We noticed
that when we are subtracting 9
from a teen number finding 10
was easier.
We did not send home book bags this week but we will next week along with purple
homework folders. If your child has theirs at home still please send it in with them Monday.
Thank you for you cooperation and partnership!
Kindergarten is Growing and
Learning Every Day with Miss
Purrington!
Kindergarten rocks! We have been keeping
busy since vacation. We have started
measuring weight and capacity! We also began
working with pennies and dimes. This week we
even helped a leprechaun pick a pot of gold to
maximize capacity! In ELA we have been
practicing changing the meaning of a word by
adding an ending sound like "s" or "ed". We
have been putting a lot of effort into our
handwriting and have practiced writing the
morning message together as a class. We also
finished our first Kindergarten chapter book read
aloud, be sure to ask your little one about Mercy
Watson!
PE News from Mr.
Morneault
This week in PE, students finished up
their table tennis unit and participated in
a volleyball unit. For table tennis,
students in 1st through 4th grade got an
opportunity to use nets and play mini
games of table tennis with their
classmates, working on cooperative
rallying. The 3rd and 4th graders also
learned the basics of how to keep score.
When we began our Volleyball unit,
students in all grades were able to make
connections with volleyball and other net
and wall activities we've participated in
this school year, including table tennis
and tennis. These connections provided
students with background knowledge to
help them succeed in understanding
volleyball terms and skills as the week
progressed. We took lots of time to work
on both forearm passing and setting, and
Kindergarten practicing a bump shot in PE!
the 3rd and 4th grade students were provided with the opportunity to take part in group
setting and forearm passing in mini-competitions.
Please continue to send sneakers with your students to help ensure safe participation in
PE!
Have a great weekend!
