Stay Lost, the Nashville-by-way-of-Athens band’s sophomore album, will be released on September 23, 2014 via Normaltown Records. Last month, Consequence Of Sound debuted the first track from the album, “Weighs,” which can also now be streamed here: https://soundcloud.com/newwestrecords/white-violet-stay-lost-weighs. White Violet will head back out on the road throughout the next three months and hit cities st across the southeast and midwest. The dates will begin on August 21 at The Earl in Atlanta, GA th and continue on and off this fall before wrapping up on October 19 at the MOTR Pub in Cincinnati, OH. A current itinerary is below. Whereas White Violet’s evocative, mostly spare 2012 debut Hiding, Mingling was essentially the solo work of young singer/songwriter Nate Nelson – augmented by a rotating cast of local Athens, GA talent – Stay Lost is the sound of a band fully formed. Nelson, together with Lemuel Hayes (drums), Vaughan Lamb (bass/vocals), and Brad Morgan (guitar), has crafted an album that brims with an easy confidence, full of chiming melodies that draw from a broad palette. “Weighs” soars with an effortless, urgent groove; “Fernandina” strikes the perfect balance of taut, catchy pop; “The Alarmist” refines the breezy AM gold that frequented White Violet’s debut; and closer “Thankfully” rounds out the album with a driving bassline that underscores the track’s brooding charms. The 11 songs on Stay Lost form a cohesive whole that exhibits White Violet’s sonic evolution from bedroom pop to more spacious, spirited songsmithing, while lyrically exploring moving on and moving forward, leaving one home and searching for another. White Violet wrote Stay Lost over the past year, with Nelson demoing the songs’ skeletons before fleshing out each together as a live band. The songs were tracked with engineer Scott Solter (Centro-matic, Spoon, The Mountain Goats, Superchunk) at his Fidelitorium Recordings studio in Kernersville, NC, over ten days, with Nelson later recording vocals himself at Cortright Recordings in Athens, GA. The album was mixed at Solter’s Durham, NC home.
