MAIN ROADS WESTERN AUSTRALIA May 2017 Charles Street Bus Bridge and Busway Project Cleaver Street and Newcastle Street intersection changes The Charles Street Bus Bridge and Busway Project is being delivered by Main Roads on behalf of the Public Transport Authority (PTA). The project is reaching its final stages with changes to the intersection at Cleaver Street and Newcastle Street in West Perth to be implemented. Changes to the intersection include: Relocation of existing signals and installation of new pedestrian crossing signals Construction of new traffic islands Resurfacing and line marking A diagram illustrating the completed intersection layout is provided overleaf. Roadworks Preliminary works are now underway. From 8 May, motorists can expect single lane closures on Newcastle Street and Cleaver Street, with the works at the intersection expected to be completed by early June. Night work is also scheduled to undertake resurfacing and line marking, weather permitting. Night work will occur between 8pm and 5am and access to Cleaver Street is likely to be restricted at this time. We apologise in advance for the disruptions and delays this work may cause. Permanent traffic changes When complete, Newcastle Street will be reduced to one lane westbound, after Charles Street, with a dedicated turning pocket for buses turning right into Cleaver Street. Right turns from Newcastle Street into Cleaver Street will be for buses only. Cleaver Street northbound, approaching the Newcastle Street intersection, will be permanently reduced to one lane.
